Simon:
I ain’t askin you if you use fdisk , mate
May I recommend a long tour of the site ? There is a lot of different stuff in here, it might also save some unnecessary questions later on
Dont forget mention that when youve changed your boot sequence in the bios to boot from cdrom 1st, when the pc restarts up during the install to hit delete and change the boot sequence in the bios not to boot from cdrom 1st, otherwise your go round in one great big loop like i did…lol
I split my HD up into 10gb for the OS and left 30gb alone
Then using the disc management ive set up another 3 partions with the 30gb area so me and the kids can save all our work on our repective drives without the fear of losing it when it comes to re-formatting my drive after ive had a dabble and bullsed it all up again
I’ve got an 80Gb HDD partioned into four equal partitions. "C:" is where the OS resides; "D:" contains my developer stuff; "E:" is for the wife and kids; and, "F:" is where I’ve copied all my software to.
If I need to format "C:", I boot the PC with a Win98SE boot disk, format the "C:" drive, and rebuild the machine from the HDD (the software only takes up 2½ Gb). As all my software is on the HDD, it installs really quickly taking about 20-25 minutes for a clean installation of XP Pro.
Furthermore, when you’re installing new hardware, the PC asks you to insert your Windows Setup Disk. Rather than fumbling around looking for the disk, I do it from the HDD.
