HCD is just Hanburys/Carters/Debens…Rayner, Jacksons et al are subbies (as I was too at one point, which is how I know).Carters and Debens are now one and the same, btw. And as far as undercutting goes, they undercut what was then SOCL to get it in the first place, so what goes around come around, eh?
Presumably they’ll just wind HCD up now. Poor Phil.
Not strictly true about Deben: although “CEL Goup” has appeared on some motors, Carter own only 40% of Deben, and the balance is held by Johnson Steven Agencies
Carters apparently own 49% and Paul Dawson owns the rest, the C.E.L group wagons you see in Southampton are Carters motors as they share the yard.China Shipping also have a large interest acooring to some sources.
There was talk about a complete takeover by Carters but apparently Maersk who have some sort of interest in Carters was against involving Deben.
I think eventually it will all be one happy family![]()
But then again I hear so much rumourmongering and bull [zb] you dont really know whats going on
Indeed so! However my figures came from Carter’s MD personally…
This article may be of interest re Maritime…
I was interested in the reference to Maersk re. Carters. Almost all their new trucks (including many of the 61 new MANs and all the new Renault’s bought this year) seem to be liveried in Maersk colours, certainily around Alconbury/Felixstowe. A lot are also in CEL Group livery and the minority these days seem to be green W Carters colours.
Whether they have some kind of stake in CEL I don’t know - Maersk already owns Pentalvers, but I don’t know if the economics and hassle of owning a road haulage fleet on that scale would be worthwhile to a company as big as Maersk.
Re the Deben ownership question - this article mentions the figure -
Certainily all the new Deben vehicles have the “CEL Group” name on the back of the cab - I dont know if Deben run vehicles in any other liveries?

Interesting - thanks!
You mentioned scale and hassle - don’t forget that, apart from Pentalver, Maersk now own Roadways…
i thought roadways was sold off by P&O to Wincanton before the shipping business went to Maersk ■■

No - that was P&O TransEuropean, including the old P&O Distribution. Roadways Container Logistics (some time since it was P&O Roadways) was a subsidiary of P&O Nedlloyd, and so passed to Maersk along with that business.
Interested to note that after a long absence Deben’s website is now back up at
No mention of the ownership question though!!

Interesting! I looked for it a couple of weeks ago, and it still wasn’t back up. Only one page now, though - it used to be more, didn’t it?
Why the interest in Deben’s?

Cant beleive im reading a post about something ive got absolutley NO interest in at all,(containers) but Johnson Steven Agencies (who i have NEVER heard of until i saw a smart colour coded white FH) have got a white colour coded FH( ), with a personal number plate, which i would put money on belongs to RPS from Ipswich (them lot with genourous speed limiters and silver FH"s) from Ipswich. So, are RPS in on the deal, or are they the undercutters? Do i really care■■?..

You’re right. Their web site seems to confirm it. CEL Group is owned by Colin Carter, Edward Carter and their mother.
Presumably,Mrs Carter…?

Why do Maritime trailers all have a notice on them saying this truck is limited to 52mph and then the numpty drivers sit staring into the abyss unaware of what is around them? still travelling at 56+ mphBecause container drivers can’t read

Ah - but some of us know someone that can either read OR write. And if they reach the heady position of knowing anyone that read AND write, they get “promoted” to being office staff or traffic controller - and don’t even need to be fat, to be a controller

No, but it helps
How the ■■■■ has this thread been draaaaagged up from the depths yet AGAIN
did someone fall asleep for nearly 18 months?
or have some of the latest topics like: 'what’s the best company to work for?,whats your favorite trailer manufacturer?, Concrete,Tarmac or Gravel whats the best road surface?
getting a bit boring?
I think I might bring the ‘Rob Ks week at work’ one back again
