I’ve enjoyed seeing many flash rear wheel drive cars struggling in all this. I live at the top of a hill and followed a chavvy BMW (dont care about model, all bell ends) round the corner into my road where he got stuck no more than 10m into it so I had to stop. I just pulled around him and cracked on up the hill while he struggled on.
I drive a ridiculously powerful RWD German car and can confirm that it’d struggle to get off of a moist crown green bowls pitch. This week my commute has been “interesting “.
A lot of it is down to the rubber fitted. 2 wheel drive with heavy tread will give more grip than a 4x4 fitted with racing slicks.
And 4x4s may get going in snow better than other vehicles but coming downhill, they are the same as other vehicles on the same tyres.
Rangies are good, but smooth tyres limit what they can do in mud or snow.

Two bags of coal in the boot and you’re good to go

Don’t be ridiculous! My electric roof would not fold away with anything in the boot. How am I meant to drive a ■■■■■ extension even in the winter with the roof up?

Well there’s no helping ya if you drive a hairdressers car
^^^^ good point, well made. Hanging onto my youth by my increasingly weak fingertips.
I remember quite a few years ago when I lived in a very remote area at the bottom of a dip on a single track lane.
We had a friend visit for dinner, during which time there was heavy snowfall. By the time for him to drive home about 4" had fallen, but as it was pristine snow I never thought he would have a problem driving home.
Silly me:- He had one of those Skoda versions of the Renault Dauphine (Estelle ■■). So almost straight after leaving he was back at the door saying he couldn’t get up the bank & drive home.
As a caring host I said don’t fret, I’ll drive it up to the top of the bank as after that it is almost all level or downhill.
Which is what I did, the funny part for me was that after I drove it up the hill, he asked me what I thought of his car.
The only thing I could think of was piloting a ‘bowl of runny rice pudding’ - in its favour it had a manual gearbox.
Since that wall came down in Berlin, first, second and third world country definition became obsolete
Also the terms first second and third did not relate to economic or infrastructure levels of development but to geopolitical alliance. It was 1st world USA and its allies, 2nd world USSR and its allies 3rd world neutrals and not aligned.
We had Austria Sweeden Finland as 3rd world
And Iran Turkey Angola and Mozambique as 1st world
It was all about the cold war
I passed my car test 1990 1st car I got and hate to admit it. Was a lada Riva. Only got it as was cheap.and my 1st car.
1st winter I had it weather was cold and bad…i was about the only.one who had a car which would start and had no problems getting anyware.
Had car few years wasn’t beat ever but was built like a tank heavy and reliable
the nodding donkey:
Oh no, an inch of snow, and we start to struggle…Left Swindon yesterday in snow, to Oxford was easy, just take it easy. Then at Towcester it stopped, only had a little more after Melton Mowbray.
Only a little more after Melton Mowbray , Grantham is 20 mins after Melton , are you snow blind !!
