MTFU and go to work, escape the house get some peace and quiet away from the moaning missus & screaming kids.
It is after all the season where marital issue come to the boil & couples who normally spend the working week apart come together, clash over trivial things and ultimately end up in the divorce courts. So spending an additional day or 2 during the festive (££ expensive ££) season away from the missus may do you both good.
Leaving the beer alone for a day or two is a good idea, itll do you good, the pubs will be packed with bar flies anyway, youll not find a seat in the pub unless you stake your claim for one at 4pm & it`ll be a nightmare trying to get served at the bar
Blimey. Sounds a right barrell of laughs if your house is anything like your above post!!
I’m glad I don’t prefer sitting in a tin box for 10+ hours, than spending a bit of time with the missus and kids. Not sure the divorce courts are necessarily compulsory either!
As a scumbag agency driver I have the luxury of choosing deciding what days Im available for work. but given the choice, Ill work through the holiday period, Id even work xmas day if the price is right. Because I know that in Jan next year onwards there's a god chance Ill have plenty of time to sit deciding which beach I`m spending the bleak season on.

Yup, that’s the spirit - and remember that there’ll be plenty of work on the “days” when such shifts suddenly get dropped by the full timers, and even other “senior” agency folk…
It’s the Eves I don’t want to be working. I had to move the stuff I’d planned for the “days” somewhere, and later/earlier in the same week doesn’t really work well when it comes to Christmas time does it?
Can you imagine trying to hold Christmas Dinner for the relatives away from Christmas Eve/Christmas morning/Boxing day?
“I know - Let’s all sit down to Christmas dinner during the shopping suicide that is Monday 23rd… Or the silly sales season that is Thursday 27th…”
Up until yesterday I had holidays booked so I enjoy a 2 week break. A phone call from my boss today changed things somewhat. I am now working Xmas eve and Xmas day, then New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
I believe Iam getting a good deal out of it.
They were more volunteers than for actual jobs to fill, and some of the blokes who weren’t offered the job now feel a bit left out.
I will be home mid morning Christmas Day for dinner with the family.

Come up with some excuse about domestics or something… It’s things like this that make appreciate the ‘9-5’ type job, some people I know finish this Friday & aren’t back @ work until jan 6…
Pulled my shoulder ,got it in accident book trying to keep going but I feel it could deteriorate over the next few days, may have to rest it for a few days over xmas

Surely a “professional” driver wouldn`t be in the pub the night before a planned shift to start with?
Why not, pub’s do serve non alcoholic drinks also.
they`ll be those dusty out of date bottles at the back of the fridge gathering dust, that no one actually drinks.
Meanwhile in the real world, anyone who is actually in the pub will be getting various alcoholic drinks shoved in front of them by all & sunder, & I doubt many of them will be non alcoholic. So trying to stay sober is probably onto a loser because the temptation will be too great
I go to the pub at least once a week if I’m home and I probably have an alcoholic drink about once or maybe twice a year. You don’t need alcohol to have a good time and most of my mates realise that I drive for a living an as a result don’t drink.
Don’t get me wrong I enjoy a beer or 15 but I value my licence and my career an awful lot more and why give yourself something else to worry about (am I still over the limit from last night)?

I used to drink quite a lot on evenings out before I drove for a living. At first when I had to start taking it easier and sticking to soft drinks I thought i’d find it difficult, don’t get me wrong it was weird and took some getting used to, but now i don’t worry about it at all and am quite happy on the Coke’s or just having the one pint. Turns out I can still enjoy myself and spent considerably less money at the same time.
Result of less drinking over a long period is that I am now a light weight, so come the big night out where I do drink I’m hammered after 4 pints
