OVLOV JAY:
Parking really ■■■■■■ me off. It’s a cost of the job and comes off the tax.
It doesn’t come off of the tax. It reduces the firm’s profit by the amount of the parking charge and so there is less tax paid on profit, but this only amounts to about 20% of the parking charge. I’m not saying that firms shouldn’t pay for parking, just how the economics of it work.
toby1234abc:
A large arable or dairy farm has room to park trucks on concrete areas, the farmer could earn money, an outside loo and shower block won’t bankrupt him, we don’t ask for much.
You might change your mind if they’ve got newly-weaned calves!
And bogs on a farm? You got to be joking mate, why pay out for a khazi when you got a slurry pit?
speedyguy:
It wouldn’t surprise me if your parked up in an MSA car park in the near future and asked about your views on the facilities for truck drivers or how it might be improved or how much it should cost,
I doubt they’d listen to the answers though. but all they really need to do is get on a boat and have a look at some of the truck parking in other places in Europe.
speedyguy:
I doubt you will be asked who you think should pay for ‘the facilities’ though and why the user rather than general taxpayer shouldn’t pay for it
It’s not a problem in paying for parking, but even if you are willing to pay there is still a lack of spaces and poor facilities once you’ve paid.
Google “aecom truck parking study uk” and have a read of some of the reports, most of the demand analysis is about 4 years old
This one is about 8th down democracy.kent.gov.uk/mgConvert … x?ID=49184
At least it will give you something to read and think about
I think it has been raised up the political agenda more now, maybe something will be done, but who knows on past performance.
I think we can safely say the FTA and RHA are in it for their “logistics and company members” and don’t give a fig about the drivers and see them as a necessary evil to be used to bend the ear of Gov for their own benefit but heyho
You can’t say i/we ain’t trying But sometimes harsh facts have to be pointed out to the clueless

Thanks for the replies everyone, it seems mainly, like everything else, you getinciple but each for different reasons.
When you do find your own little regular places, be careful who you tell, as there will always be some ■■■■■■ who will [zb] it up for you and everybody else by leaving their rubbish and/or [zb] behind.
I’m with Robroy all the way. If you tell your mate about a good spot and he tells his mate and he…Get the picture.
My own laws are no motorway service or laybys unless there is a pub nearby and guess who broke their own laws during October.

I never park in lay bys (except for same reason as you) because the faceless…‘‘THEY’’ tried to force us into them when the town parks closed, so I aint playing. Also most are ■■■■ health hazards.
Never park in MSAs (apart from free ones on Continent) why would I want to be financially analled for 10 quids worth of crap food voucher. In fact why does anybody each to his own but I can not weigh it up.
Ind ests on edge of town with facilities for me, and little quiet corners that I have found over the years. Other depots, or the odd truckstop (on co. account) depending if the food is edible and/or bar with Sky Sports.
