Can point you in right direction if you want night trunking.Long nights though but money is good.I got £32000 for the year but i recently left and took an 8 grand pay cut because of the amount of driving involved. In a normal week you would do 1 x 9.5 hour drive and 4 x 8 hour drives.

I have seen loads of adverts for Canada. If I was young and single I would be off tomorrow but at 56 and settled in West Yorkshire I can’t just up and leave… errrmm hang on

Wife is shouting yeah you can! :imp: :imp:

Might be worth sending a pm to nwexplorer (think that’s correct), he used to advertise jobs in West Yorkshire quite often.

If I was you mate I’d report the W@nk to his superiors, and if desperate, go to a training centre and get a driving assessment from a trained professional, get it in writing, and the instructor and company details and attach it to your C.V and go back in there.

No disrespect to the lass, she might have been good… but lets hope she wasn’t and she scrapes a few trailers, units and parked cars… “Who assessed her? Who thinks this is acceptable? Ah!!! Him who got a complaint in about him!!!”

I’d also agree with other guys, small hauliers will be more likely to give you a chance, it’s how I got my foot in.

Good luck with your job hunt

ShropsBri:
I’m sorry your assessment turned out that way and your assessor sounds like one of those who makes himself look a prick over a woman driver as so many do.
Just put this to the back of your mind, have a few beers and keep trying as if it never happened.

Your luck will change, onwards and upwards eh!

This reminds me of the ■■■■ of an instructor who told the examiner I was better driving backwards than forwards and then told me after i failed my test second time that I would never be a professional pcv driver. And just like the assessor in this thread, he was a ■■■■■■■■■ and a joker in the vehicle and very critical. If I could only meet him now.

Blimey Leedschris those hours are great, roadways you are lucky if you get a short shift being 10 hours usually do 12 an most of it constant driving.

Don’t want to say her name but the ■■■■■■■ the Arla induction with me is OK. I know because last year she worked at Roadways and it was her dad who got her in there. She used to do Felixestowe containers but I walked out in November after being put on TNT with clapped out ERFs that kept blowing alternators and clutches. I got the punishment route because I would not do 10 hours driving every night to feliwestowe and back (you can do it in 9 hours 20 minutes but it is the hour on the dock that pushes you over). She must of got the same treatment because she said she had been doing TNT and got fed up of it. You get the TNT with scrap vehichles if you want to comply with the law. If you are not bothered about going over your hours every night you get a 13 plate merc and Felixestowe lol Anyway the lass never scratched a merc to my knowledge. No the only fault is the power ■■■■■■■■ “in carge of training” and wanna be DVLA examiner :imp:

I was lucky, learnt to drive a truck aged 12,took it for a road test alone aged 14,passed my test at 17,took a van to Ventnor next day from Essex ,was never out of a job ,got full HGV at 21 ,no test in those days.Count on one hand how many forms I filled in for a job.Fully employed for about 50 yrs.

Driver agencies should be outlawed, they have destroyed the job by cutting pay and conditions whilst charging over the to fee’s to the customers, they exploit the drivers, tell lies and rob them blind.

Alder…those hours i gave were not working hours but actual driving. The shift can be 11 to 14 hours long.Plenty of new drivers don’t last a week because of the amount of driving involved. No agency drivers ever take up the offer of driving full time for them. But its a job which pays well, and is better than no job.Theyre based in Morley.

I also know of a night trunking job in Normanton at £10.75 p/h.
3.5 hours driving per night, spend most of it asleep on the bunk.

When I was fresh I was wanting all the long runs. You know, get out and about and see the country, learn the road network etc.

Few laps round the M25 and up over Shap, down to Devon etc a few times and it soon gets immensely boring. We’re rostered at work and if I can I always try and swap for the shorter runs. A, they start later so I get a lie in and B, I’m not trying to invent new ways of not falling asleep at the wheel out of boredom.

I thought 8/9 hrs driving was par for the course, I did 6 hours driving on Tuesday, felt like I’d robbed a bank when I booked off.

You don’t need to lower yourself, they are the scum of the earth an in my esteemed opinion are one of the major factors in ruining the industry.

Driving assessors are usually failed managers with a chip, the one you describe sounds like a text book example, as a new driver you can’t be too picky, sort a decent C.V out and go around in person, it’s worked for me on several occasions and it will for you.

When looking for work these thieves should be your last resort.

Well I’m all for equality and women in transport been equal…but over the years iv seen drivers, planners, transport managers, driver trainers and goods in staff treat women a lot better than good male drivers.
Iv also seen the offices get a lady planner to phone up a driver to get him to do a ridiculous request because " he won’t say no to you".
If you hold a licence and are good enough it don’t matter what ■■■ you are we should be treated the same.
My mate who has his kids on a weekend always struggles to get back on a Friday night to pick them up, at the same firm a lady driver gets to leave at 3 pm on a Friday because she is a “single mother”, now I don’t see a difference my self.
Then you get the male managers who think because she is female they have a chance with them so treat them better than the blokes  .
Also if that bloke at arla had said to the young lass what he had said about you he would probably be on a ■■■ discrimination charge.
On the subject of a job though like the rest have said sod the agency’s go knocking on doors or pick up the phone, trust me it works…

alder:
So if I get a call it will be HGV 2 multidrop on an impossible timescale for £8 an hour!!

You can only remain positive in this industry for so long

Those sort of jobs are ten a penny and forever advertised. How mauling a 300 kg cage across busy roads because you can’t park anywhere near the drop can be described as ‘prestige’ or ‘blue chip’ is totally beyond me. :open_mouth:

Some hauliers use agencies, but some won’t have anything to do with agencies, or agency drivers.

Leedschris OK get it 9.5 driving does not phase me I just complained at Roadways because we were clocking up 10 hours and sometime just over that but they expected that every night which is of course illegal. If you can point me to that firm I shall go and enquire, sounds good to me, it is the rate that counts.

The young lass on the induction is OK driving wise because she was at Roadways last year when I was there. I never saw her but I knew her name as all the blokes were talking about her :unamused: She was under the wing of one of Roadways full time drivers who was a mate of her dads and he took care of her. She said on Thursday she got fed up with doing TNT so I imagine she walked away from the container Felixestowe runs like me and many other drivers did. The punishment for that at Roadways is to get an ERF that has been around the clock 5 times to do TNT runs with, sheer boredom and the ERFs regularly breakdown. So we just happened to be at Arla on the same day for induction.

Maybe if you’re tramping and can climb on the bunk at end of shift, but driving for that long night in night out and then booking off and then the commute home( i only lived ten mins away though ) takes its toll after a while.I also do the school run morning and afternoon, so it wasn’t any good for me as i was only getting 5 hours sleep during the day.If you can get a full days sleep then i suppose theres no reason why you can’t drive for 8-9 hours on nights.

Get on bell to Direct Workforce in Leeds. That’s Bibby’s own agency and how you get into Yeadon and only 5 mins drive down Carlton Lane for you.

You’re better off out of Arla, trust me on this one.

But more importantly, where’s the pics of the girl? This-thread-is-worthless-etc.

Seen this a couple of times, some tasty-looking 20-something bird who’d have little difficulty picking up any bloke of her own age starts, and half the blokes who are old enough to be her dad think if they drop a few lines it’ll all of a sudden be back to hers and straight upstairs. Comedy, really.

I feel a lot better now people saying you are better off not working at Arla. I actually got a real bad impression while ■■■■■■■■ was taking us around the plant. He was saying stay away from that shunter he is a maniac and don’t say anything about him because his wife works on planning and she is a ■■■■■ but do not say anything to any of the drivers because their son is one. He then said the boss is a sacking maniac and 12 people have gone since he came 4 months ago. As the boss pulled in later in his car everyone started running around like flies testing things and clearing up etc. trying to look busy. They were petrified
