Feast to Famine - agency

dozy:
Apparently spare driver today ( me& a couple of others ) , told wait in your cars & we will ring you if / and when there’s work , you’ll be paid your 9 hrs guaranteed ( ( (confirmed by agency ) as long as you stay on site available for work
After. 1 hr 15 sat in car I can’t feel my feet & my nose hasn’t stopped running , so I think there trying to freeze us into submission , pay us a couple of hours , the other lads are young and stopping for the 9 hrs , not feeling the cold , i am so I’ll be ducking out & heading home for the warmth of my house / fire / settee in the next hour
It sticks in my throat to say it , but looks like I was wrong about lots of work , see what tomorrow brings , off thurs fri / thank god , im bloody freezing

Ever heard of running the engine or don’t you get paid enough to afford the fuel

It can’t possibly cost more than 10% of what you’re earning to run the engine of your car and be toasty warm.

Judging by his rant he`s probably over excited after finally getting a steak dinner and a can of Lucozade to go with his manky orange.

Btw Dopey, I think youll find it wasnt me who did the reverse image search of your Benidorm images.

If you recall correctly, he claimed he had left stobart, yet the picture he took the passenger mirror showed the stobart log and him in his orange bottoms, probs with a pie and iron bru

Orange bottoms , I know of No stobart uniform that had orange bottoms as part of the uniform , they were black
If you recall correctly , we’ll you don’t as stobarts uniforms when I worked for them was black trousers , black & green shirts , black / green jackets , not orange trousers
As for leaving them , when Newark shut I was transferred to metsa Boston which I left after 2 weeks , then did agency at dhl , nightfreight , brakes etc , I then worked for there agency at rugby ( logistics people ) , I left there & now work agency
Hope that helps you with recalling things correctly

These are the trousers that stobart issued you with ( that I still use ) there now more grey than black , but certainly not orange

What’s the money like on the lower hours?

What’s the money like on the lower hours?

This week will be
Mon days - 9 hrs
Tues days - 14.5 hrs
Wed days - 9 hrs
Thurs days - 9 hrs

Thurs ( today I’m spare & assuming I won’t get a run , just guaranteed hours , tues was 14.5 as spare but eventually got run
Gross 862.50 , net no idea as I didn’t get paid anything last week ( agency holiday ) so if it’s like every other time I’ve not had a wage the previous week I hardly pay any tax the following week , I’m guessing £ 700 apx net , but that is a guess
I’m lucky ish , as I get guaranteed 9 hrs , but have to stay on site ( sit in car today ) as theyl only pay that if your on site & available for work
Today will be 6 - 15.30 ( take 30 min break off you ) , if I go home earlier I will be just paid what I do
I’ve a very good hourly rate that makes the difference
I can’t see this lasting , though they tell me I’ve work for jan , we will see

Another example of uniform colour , black / green , as there uniforms always were , though mostly green to begin with
Only uniform I can remember that had orange in it was innovate , orange / dark blue polo shirts , dark blue jacket/ trousers with orange pin stripes ( I used polo shirts up until recently )

No I finish today , last shift , thank god , as I say I’m on a good hourly rate , but I don’t get holiday pay , sick pay etc , and I take £100 pw out of my net pay to cover holidays, it looks good but is nothing special
If I didnt have loads of stobart kit in attic , I’d be paying for shirts , jumpers / jackets / trousers / boots etc

you were in a stobart truck on passengers side plus in orange hi vis bottoms, I assume, you were doing something which required yourself to wear orange hi vis bottoms, you took the photo and it showed the stobart logo from reflection off of near side mirror.

Different pic to the one you mentioned. Dozy in hi vis legs.

This is the thread I am interested on as an agency driver and I assume that would relate to any agency driver.

We are in a recession.

I am not in touch of how this situation is felt around, but for my own experience (you can skip this bit):

Got banned as usual from ongoing work at client in late November, which woke me up to the commoners’ reality of the times: things slow despite the Christmas build-up.
Right before Christmas two weeks taking fridges into supermarkets RDC’s feeling like a late push.
January dead til a few days ago a client is pushing also one of its depots with ambient for supermarkets RDC’s.

I am wondering about the general picture beyond my confusing biased own perception.

Are we any close to January 2009? Are in place hiring bans and agencies going out of business?
