The one that your Grandad drove would have been that scale model one which you sit on,you know the one that turns up at steam gatherings and the Kids sit on the little trailer! Look Carryfast apart from the first line of your post the rest of it is incoherent drivel----hasn’t Nursey been round the Ward yet and administered the nightly dose of horse tranquelizer. Nursey! nursey! the syringe and quick!!! Cheers Bewick.

Blimey you’ll be saying that anyone who says that Fodens originally (rightly) preferred the idea of a steam powered truck to a Gardner powered one should be sectioned next.

This is one sat in covered storage on a farm where i tip in hertford… Looks the bees…
And thats an old Leicester reg, so wonder where she started out…!
Would this 8 wheeler have had a 150LX engine rather than a 180LXB? or is this just a bit of “badge engineering” Bewick.

Hi Dennis,
A firm I worked for had a new ERF eight legger on a F plate in 1968,that had a Gardner 150 and grossed 24 ton,payload 15 ton.

They still have one Foden left Nathan,a Cat 450 eight legger, all the rest are Volvo’s now.
Cheers Dave.
It’s about time the steamers had another chance. It was perhaps unfortunate that the internal combustion engine was invented when it was because I believe that the steam engine could have been developed to a point where it would have been far superior but cheap oil and obstructive governments pushed steam out of sight.
A few more from C W Griffiths.
