Experience

Right so I passed my tests C and C+E in 2009 (civvy street) then when constantly laughed out of AGY’s and no joy with firms because I had no experience I joined the Army as a driver in the RLC. Due to circumstances out of my control not bad behaviour my Army career has ended early and so I find myself back chasing a job. And guess what my military experience doesn’t count in civvy street so being turned away from everything I ring or apply via C.V. for. I could understand if I was a young lad but I’m a sensible married 34 year old. So any advice directed at me would be appreciated and or if anyone knows of any company’s or decent AGY’s with work in the Rotherham-Sheffield-Chesterfield area if you could give me an heads up I’d be eternally grateful. As an aside I have my ADR packages and also both btec and nvq’s in driving goods vehicles.

Roy

Hello Young Roy
you have got to just keep trying mate apply for class 2 first through the Agents even 7.5 tom work once they see that you can do the job you will move up that ladder .
Also even if a job says expearience dont take that as read some firms will give you a chance i got a tipper job after haveing my C for just a few weeks and that advert said expearienced tipper driver i Phoned anyway and was just as honest as i could be … he gave me a chance after two days training although i didnt stick it long but that gave me expearience and a reference as i left on good terms … so dont just give up you will get there
best regards old ROY ha

Hiya Roy!

As ‘old Roy’ says, just don’t give up mate! I have noticed a fair few recent posts on here from new and old members alike who have been successful in gaining a job despite having no previous experience. They just kept on going and didn’t give in, then happened to be in the right place at the right time. This is usually the ‘key’ I have found. I only just recently got my C+E (having held my Cat C since 2004) and after applying all over the place and not giving in, I have in fact just today been offered a C+E job by a firm less than 2 miles away! So, if you knock on enough doors and constantly make yourself known, it will only be a matter of time mate.

All the best! :sunglasses:

Cheers fellow Roy and LJA I will keep going it’s just disheartening when I can’t seem to get a foot in the door. Oh and congrats LJA
