I have a built in fridge but i wondered why you would need a locker on the trailer with a power supply? even the porkys don’t go that far
after 40 years on European work i have found you got to take the good with the bad but with a little bit of thinking you can usually find more good than bad. still enjoying it and if enough people refused the crap stuff things might change , but unfortunately there is all ways some ■■■■ who will do anything for a bit of truck bling.
truck on steady

The other part of Euro work and the reason for so many drivers shipping out on a Friday was to get somewhere they wanted to me for the weekend rather than stay in the UK and have to fight for the madness that was Sunday in Dover and the madness of 10pm Le Mans starts.
For me,it was a case of planning a good place to park up for a weekly rest, the bike was handy to get away from the cab,to find a river, woods, medieval village or town,on getting back to the truck,i had a set of Argos bell weights, for a keep fit routine.
If you look on some atlases, there is green line along a rural route,to signify, that it is a scenic drive for tourists, that was a good bike route for me.
The eastern euro boys would sit in the cab for the whole weekend, but they did cook well, with garlic, onions, olives,as the allicin in the onions and garlic would seep from the armpits while they would sweat it out.And never get a cold or a flu.
A lake or a public pool is not hard to find,or a water park.
This was me last weekend by Montpellier, it’s horrible being weekended, I chuck a bike in the trailer if I know I’m out for the weekend.
LRM`S post is a good one,i have found the eastern euro drivers very happy with their lot, they sing and dance in Dieppe, when off for the weekend,or when in Newhaven docks.
It is what you make of it,i am always banging on about the pools at Le Havre and Dieppe, the Havre one is outdoor and inside pools, designed by some very famous designer, for extra money, you pay for the luxury side of what is on offer, both pools use recyled sea water, you can swim outside in the winter.
At Le Havre,i would swim in the sea,but the town is limited for driver friendly eateries, there is Rouitier near the marina, but closing times are at weekends, the bigger one is on the large industrial estate with the fume emitting chemical chimneys. Not open weekends.
I once would have loaded trailers sent out to Ouistreham, there was time to do the laundry, prepare invoices, and relax for a day or two.
The weather looks terrible Russel, did you tell the gaffer it was raining down there, did you try the snails in garlic, and some fresh horse meat,or raw mince that is steak tartare with a raw egg on top of it,takes a brave soul to eat that, the French coffee is from the ditches in the Amazonian rain forests, they like it acidic, the same Seafredo brand all over the country.Gut cleaner fliud,Italian Lavaza, the best.
I think I would sooner drink Tobys second hand bath water through his socks than swim in the Seine or around the coast of Le Havre. It has one of the biggest concentrations of chemical factories and oil refineries, tanker cleaning stations and Muslims in France. Apart from the amount of ships leaking oil & crew who are throwing slops overboard.
I did wonder why my hair and teeth fell out,not the best sea to dip in for the annual bath.

Acording to the readout on my dash it was 38c Saturday and 35c Sunday, I had to pay 13 euro’s for some suntan lotion but still got burnt, the water looked so good I stripped off to my boxers and went in for a swim followed by a nice cold shower then the lager. I only ate food in my cab.
Russel, Decathlon sell some good bikes, they are a very large sports chain warehouse, there is one at Surrey Quays in London, top notch kit. They are all over France. You can spend up to 8000 on a bike,if feeling flush or the Granny has died,i used to do about 40 miles a day on a weekend off.
That food looks good,i once tipped near the centre of Marseille, what a place, barbed wire all over, and some dodgy characters checking out the wagon,no driver stops over there, they go to a big truck stop up the road,a lot safer, think i saw FBI`s most wanted walking the streets.

■■■■■■ marseille, my satnav decided to play up and I ended up down side streets, was so relieved when I spotted a sign for aix.
well this weekend just gone I was in Castets, little disappointing, closed 3pm sunday, but a walk in to town sorted that, today I’m in Valladolid too late to tip at renault( and I thought the french were bad)
so drove in to the town, found some waste ground and found a restaurant, 9 euro for 3 course meal and a litre of wine, yeah just can’t hack it

was the wheelbarrow heavy.?
The Sarge:
And I always thought Mod’s were s’posed to be nice…
You did ? What on earth gave you that idea ?
LRM. you (and several others) have made a fair point, there are times when a plan goes all to hell and you end up stuck. As was also mentioned, you have to take the rough with the smooth.
Getting caught out is the point though, you shouldn’t be getting caught out most of your away weekends, so it should be a case of taking the irregular rough weekend among several smooth ones.
New boys n girls giving it a bit of a go for maybe a month before jacking the job in?
There’s nothing new there.
I’m an ex-muppet, that company ran a fair sized fleet on Euro work. They used to get through in excess of 500 drivers a year (according to driver rumour). That could even be an almost accurate figure, because they were one of the few who would give almost anyone a start and a big enough fleet. They gave me a chance after all, fairly conclusive evidence in itself

We had a similar story at Norman Lewis, Simon, the joke was that if you saw someone new in the yard on a Monday he wouldn’t be there when you came back off that trip. I spent more weekends out than most and often bumped into new larkers in Zeebrugge or Europoort, never to be seen again
There seemed to be about half a dozen units that had revolving doors
