ERF's! Did they get it wrong as well?

A problem with the celect engine computers was that drivers who interrupted the tacho needed a new ecu from time to time certainly with 10litre 350 celect.

I drove an EC11 eight wheel tanker for 2 & half years, R reg sleeper cab with ■■■■■■■ and twinsplitter. That old motor was fantastic, brilliant and reliable drive train, and still looked immaculate even thuogh it had only 1 re-spray in 15 years. The cab interior was all still intact with no creaks or rattles and was roomy with a comfortable bunk, and most importantly, easy to keep clean. I currentley drive a 12 plate FM 460, and although it does the job and gets along well, it has constantly been in and out of the dealers with problems. I’d have that ERF back like a flash if i could, i enjoyed driving that motor, the twinsplitter was superb and it handled like it was on rails, you just cant feel the road in new lorries. The only things i would change on the EC would be the Wash Wipe system, and stronger check straps on the doors. I think the fact is that if a firm like the multi million pound JCB group are still buying second-hand EC11’s and rebuilding them to suit a multitude of roles must tell you that the ERF was a quality product that is much missed. They plan to run them until 2020 at least. No other manufacturer produces a product that suits their purposes, so they have had to carry on building their own.
If they started making them tommorow, they’d sell, and sell well.

i think when erf finished they left alot of operators up in the air by what to substitute them with.perhaps never having tried anythink else because they never had a reason to,with erf being good enough to cope with anythink other manufacturers came out with
