P.S. what do all those numbers on the grill mean eg 340 114L on the front of my W reg Scania?Tom.
Numbers like that often refer to horse power and engine displacement. On the Mercs the first 2 numbers are chassis weight and the last 2 the horse power divided by 10. 1845 or 2546 etc.
Tommytrucker999:
Folks,As a squeaky new driver I am interested to know if there is a definite pecking order as in cars in the truck world. I.e. we all know French cars are made of plasticine, German cars are supposed to be the dogs knackers (over priced and over engineered and nowhere near as well made as the old ones etc).
As someone knowing very little about trucks, and wants to be educated, I assume Scania are the best engineered trucks, most like Renault cos they look good and have flat floors, Foden are supposed to be very basic and bulletproof, Mercedes are all bling and very expensive. Not sure about M A N, I’m told they’re very good.
Am I way off or bang on??
P.S. what do all those numbers on the grill mean eg 340 114L on the front of my W reg Scania?

Spaniards ran a lot of erf,s at one bit ,did they have dealerships in spain
How odd that they put the ERF badge on the opposite side to the UK.
And that looks like an EC127, which had the Detroit engine in. Not many of them were produced.
I used to go into Sandbach a lot, and one day in the engine stores, I was told the number of engines put in as a percentage, and it was something like 90% ■■■■■■■■ about 10% Caterpillar, Gardner and others.
