ERF 'European' (1975)

That’s an interesting set of figures

Not least comparing the torque output of the Gardner 8 LXB in that company. That wasn’t a bad effort at all.

Oddly enough, ERF initially offered an optional 8LXB in the NGC but (presumably) because you could have that engine in the 5MW (cheaper on all counts), none were sold.

Yes! New pic! That’s an interesting photo, Dean, because we have so few pictures of this particular unit. 251 suffered an in-cab fire incident quite early in its existence on the Middle-East run. It has clearly done some mileage when this pic was taken and there is Arabic script on the lower bodywork. I would say that this was probably taken after the fire. The vehicle has been de-signwritten and parked up. Richard Read’s mechanics, who knew their stuff BTW, then removed the cab, re-orientated the chassis to Right-hand-drive and fitted a B-series day cab. That must have been the fastest early B-series (or so anyone would have thought) on the road at the time with a 335 ■■■■■■■ in it! It gave quite long service after that, I believe. Thanks! Ro

PS: Re above post ^^^ - We’d better watch out for any other of Lee’s NGC pictures: he might have lots! :open_mouth: Ro

PPS. If you look behind 251 in that picture, there is another NGC in Read livery. At that time it would have to have been KFH 250P because NFH 120P wasn’t painted into Read livery (from Vijore livery) until a bit later, I think. Ro

Great pic! :sunglasses: Never seen this one before, Steve; thank you for posting it! That would be PDF 444R when it was still in VIJORE colors. It appears to have lost it’s sunvisor. Cheers! Ro

EDIT to add: If you want to know how I identified it as PDF and not KFH (the other NGC in VIJORE colours) it’s just that the tow-pack assembly under the grille is painted blue, whereas the other one’s is painted red.

Also, the Volvo on the left appears to be a Davies Turner unit.

Sent to me this morning. I know we have many pictures of HNV 59N but this is a new one. Ro

Hi Robert
Coincidence this pic coming up now as it shows pdf444r with the red roof , pretty sure that is my old man Pete Robson as he always wore the cowboy hat everywhere and was only 5ft7 , I did keep the hat for many years but can’t find the hat now , also answers a small disagreement we had as he said it wasn’t sign written when he had the truck yet the pic of him in Pakistan clearly showed it was sign written, bit late now to say he was partially right

Regards adrian
