Further to the GL Baker NGC: it was suggested that there were two but if you remember, my contact who gave me the potted history of MMG 772P thought there was only one. This is fair comment if only one of them was in GL Baker’s livery! Newmercman, on the Kent Transport thread, has just suggested that the SECOND GL Baker NGC was painted in the livery of Van Omeran. He’s currently doing a bit more homework on that, and I will too so watch this space (we might have no.88 on the reg after all!).
Robert
Heres a pic of there colour scheme. These were from the Leeds depot. Two M’s in Ommeren and no A !

That was quick DEAN!. I’ve another link: Van Omeran was clearly linked with NYK containers (see black and white pic below). We do know that MMG 772P ended up on NYK work. Now, either there were two NGCs or MMG 772P was repainted in Van Omeran colours! Robert
Personally, I think that for the time being we should treat this situation as being about two separate units (so I’m putting no.88 back on the map!). Robert
Meanwhile, I’ve found another Van Ommeren picture of a lorry contemporary with the mystery NGC. Notice that it has an NYK container on the trailer, reinforcing the link there. I’ve found out very little else as yet. Robert

…and the Guy may just be powered by…well you what!!!
My correspondent re MMG 772P has not forgotten us and is still doing some homework on it. He worked out of the Knights Road depot in Silvertown running regular full loads down to the GL Baker depot in Oare Road, Faversham. He cannot recall ever having seen, or heard of, a second NGC in Van Ommeren colours; though he does remember that GL Baker ran two Guy Big-Js in the same NYK / Van Ommeren livery as the picture of the Fiat I posted last week (further up this page).
Apparently, the regular driver of MMG 772P claimed that it gave the Scania 140s a run for their money - a sentiment of which Pat Kennett would have approved (given the '75 Euro-Test)!

Sounds like it was just the one NGC then Robert if that driver never saw or heard of another one ■■

A new pic of Cauvas.

Not necessarily! The Channel-hoppers spent very little time at Faversham (when I did the same work later) so it would have been easy to miss individual vehicles. Also, I’m disinclined to dismiss NMM’s observations so readily, as he’s usually very reliable; so let’s see for now and keep no. 88 on hold!
That Cauvas shot has some great atmosphere with the low sunlight throwing up the contrasting shadows.
Here’s an update on Ashley’s model. Some amazing detail in the cockpit there! I’m glad he’s going to stage the driver’s door in the open position. Robert
No worries mate,I was hoping that it was a new unseen pic of a French NGC. I guess you’ve got to get up pretty early to catch a pic you’ve not seen before! Love the first book by the way,a great read,I just need to get the second one now.

Many thanks Jamie! Third one’s nearly finished but it won’t be out for some time yet . Cheers, Robert

Ash has been breathing further life into the model. It’s at a very exciting stage now! Robert

Looking good chap, what scale is it in cm’s ,length, height ?
It’s 1:24 scale. This picture of Jimski with the GMC he made in the same scale for Jazzandy should give you and idea of that scale. Robert

Sorry but that was an image supplied to me by Wobbe Reitsma in Holland and I reduced it to show the cab only. Never mind! Just read what I’ve just said about your endeavours on the Paul Gee thread - it’ll make you blush but you bloody well deserve it! Robert
