I was sent these nice pics of the imposter UGE852R which has just been re cabbed and had a 350 bhp ■■■■■■■ fitted, at Cossington commercials.
Original truck before being recabbed.
Nice ^^ new pics of a newly converted UGE (by the pristine look of it). The top pic is on this thread and was taken by Brian Edgar. Thanks for posting them, Dean!
Here’s a picture of it taken by John Douglas in its final days at Ravenscraig where it was operated by J & Y Weir of Fernigait on internal site work. Robert
[EDIT: picture posted in error - removed by me]
Closer in. Robert

Might as well have rounded it up to the 400 option.![]()

That would have been one Hell of a Truck!

If the engine had been made available here for a standard tractive unit, then yes, maybe. Robert

No idea: probably mid-'80s. Apparently it used to pull regular 50-tonne loads there. Robert

I think you need to get out a bit more chap !
Re: Transport Groen. As i have said before according to the dutch driver i have been speaking with they only ever had 2 ERF’s. The NGC reg 16-37-FB and now have been sent photos of the B series today. Reg 94-09-TB. This B series was eventually sold to Van Rumpt they think.
As always, Dean, a breath of fresh air! Useful information and good pics . These excellent B-series pics could go on the LHD B-series thread. At least we now know that Groen just had the one NGC. Robert
This must be a very rare roadtest completed in December 1974 by the Dutch magazine Bedrijfstransport. Jan Bestebreurtje from Besttruck supplied one of C.Groenenboom’s NGC’s,reg 12-97-FB.
I must thank Gerdi who is a dutch lorry driver for translating this as best as he could.
Its not “perfect” but i tried using a online translation website and it was impossible.
It kept mixing the words up and some of the words just did not make sense. Therefore you have to have a bit of common sense when reading it.
( Possibly someone else can fine tune it !)
This looks like a picture from the test.

That’s a fantastic bit of research, Dean! And thank you for taking the trouble to provide a translation. The magazine certainly gives the NGC a positive report. I’ll study this lot and see if I can tease out some new strands to chew on! In the meantime, my initial response is as follows:
I notice that their overall impression was very positive. Bedrijftransport found the NGC very pleasant to drive in the hills - something echoed strongly in Pat Kennett’s Belgian test six months later. The tester commented that the constant-mesh Fuller installation was made very slick by the Lipe-Rolaway clutch and clutch-brake. The nice driving position and well set up power steering was also favourably commented on. As was the standard Jake Brake provision.
An interesting remark not usually seen in UK tests (in my experience) was that it took 52 secs to accelerate from 50 to 80 kph at 41.5 tonnes; which the tester claimed put the NGC among the more flexible trucks of the day.
Dean, please convey my personal thanks to Gerdi for his help with making sense of the translation. All this is valuable material.
Robert

Great input Dean and the pictures tell it all! Yesterday I contacted Marlinka Groen (daughter of Th. Groen) and I hope she’ll look into the company-files more thoroughly to give evidence to the
open questions on how many ERF’s served the fleet. When the B-serie was sold to Van Rumpt, in fact the exterior matches, factory-sleeper etc etc, but the registration doesn’t as the plate stays
with the chassis when it changes owner.
Superb input on the NGC-test in the country of clogs, windmills and tullips

Hello ERF-Continental, Funny you should mention the reg numbers being different i had noticed that but Van Rumpt had more than 1 ERF. I found another one today which
was taken by Leo Mes and he says it was Van Rumpt lorry. That will be handy if Marlinka can give us more information and hopefully pictures. I tried to contact Mrs TH.Groen but she never got back to me. I hope you have more success with the daughter.
@Dean…well Th. Groen is still active in transport but as a company
small with 4 tractors, all Mercedes-Benz. Attached a picture with the
boss (Marlinka) next to an Actros, about early 2000’s
I don’t question your sources nor the agenda from Leo Mes, but I more
or less expect the ERF B-series to be the property of Cees Willemstein
as they also had an NGC with the same livery (as per the paint scheme
of White of which various examples exist) but let’s maintain your info.

Looks like it could have been one of Willemstein old trucks like you say.
