Couldn’t decide whether this wants posting here or in the Old Timers.
Been having a few issues with the rear axle braking on our EC11 recently. It’s a Meritor axle with fixed cam sliding shoe with auto adjusting brakes (FCSS/A). Just stripped it down and have discovered that on both sides, both the top and bottom push rods (item 3 below) have broken in half which in turn damage the tappet and make them sieze in the housing. Can anyone give any indication as to why this has happened?

Thanks
Lofty
Sorry I havent got a definate answer as to why this has happened and it is very unusual for all 4 to have broken. Over the years I have maintained quite a few EC’s and have only come across 1 of these broken before and it was on a fairly new waggon. I would say just rebuild it with new parts and it should be fine.
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I’m assuming its not only just happened but one side has only recently become low on efficiency and picked up an advisory at an MOT.
I wasn’t to concerned having found the problem on the low efficiency side that the adjuster was sized on but having stripped the opposite side to find the same problem and then to be told by my local parts supplier that this type of brake gives very little problem, alarm bells have started to ring.
