One thing that always amazes me is how cars going in opposite directions manage to stop opposite each other when allowing an emergency vehicle through. If they’d have only kept moving the emergency vehicle wouldn’t have to squeeze through or even stop. [emoji53]
Or drivers that panic and stop on the crest of a hill/bridge instead of just going a bit further so the emergency driver gets a better view of the road.
I’ll always try and block junctions/roundabouts if they’re coming up behind me to stop any other vehicles joining the road. It gives them a few extra seconds knowing that a junction is effectively safe and nothing is going to pull out on them.
I’ll admit that I make more of an effort to move out of the way of fire and ambulance than I do police. Maybe it’s because a police vehicle is generally more manoeuvrable or fire/ambulance are normally saving lives.
I don’t make any effort to move when the Wombles are trying to push through a queue straddling two lanes using their silly yellow lights on their missions of self importance to get to the front of a queue.

Even though they might be on their way to put a ■■■■■■■■ the broken down lorry and pull it out of the way, or roll the overturned caravan onto the hard shoulder, so you and everyone else in the queue can get on your way?
Away from the traffic lights scenario, You quite often see people panic when emergency services come up behind them on a single carriage road, if they have nowhere to go they seem to just stop dead!! Surely it is better to just keep going as at least the emergency services will be making progress and will soon get past you when safe!! That’s what I have done before anyway!! Anyone of the same opinion!?

+1 to m1cks there…wombles don’t count on yellows due to 1 theyre not emergency services on blues, and 2.theyre accurately described as wombles full of their own self importance hence mountain out of molehill beancounting fannys.they hinder more than they help, and about as much use to mankind as a chocolate watch in the desert.

Or as In most of my experiences, on their way to get to the front of a queue to block a road on H&S grounds where traffic was managing to make its own way around an obstruction without any interference.

Yes, the Blue Light Aware video, previously mentioned, says keep going until it is safe to pull in to let them pass.
Have we been assuming throughout all this argument that EVERY set of traffic lights in the UK has both speed cameras and “jump” cameras on them as well?

Cameras don’t understand what is safe and what is common sense ROG.
They understand only one thing. Cross the line. Click.
I wouldn’t let an ambulance push me through a red light with a camera. I can’t be arsed with the hassle of appealing.
What would you do if the situation was your nearest and dearest in it with every second counting … sit there because a light was red but with a safe place to go

Stupid question ROG.
Obviously I’d get out of the way, trigger a camera, even mow down a couple of pedestrians if necessary.
Most ambulances aren’t carrying my nearest and dearest though.

It could be me but I read that as being someone who puts their own legal standing above safety and the well being of others - am I wrong
Thing is Rog when people are being prosecuted for going over white lines/into yellow boxes, bus lanes etc etc to let emergency vehicles though, you can’t blame people for not taking the chance.
I wouldn’t want to trigger a camera to let a blue light through so I won’t I’m afraid. Selfish but I can’t afford the points/fine etc.
like I said earlier, I was given the “Wtf?” by some coppers for not driving onto the pavement to let them though because I didn’t want to knock a pedestrian over - you can well imagine that had I done so, they’d have washed their hands of it.
I’ve also seen vehicles with siren blaring in obviously very heavy traffic, which I thought they were meant to switch off in those situations?
See what I mean? The services don’t exactly help themselves in these situations do they?
Me personally, I think of it in terms of if something has happened to me that someone determines serious enough to dial 999 to get the emergency services out then I dont really think I want to wait because some ■■■■■■■■ is sitting blocking them at the lights feeling content that they are “in the right for not crossing the line”.
Each to their own in that situation but if I see flashing blue lights and hear a siren then im assuming someone needs urgent assistance. And in my opinion its pretty selfish to sit there happily listening to the radio and eyeing up the talent while someone is probably dying somewhere
I don’t see the point in emergency vehicles turning off sirens at traffic lights/queued traffic. If the emergency vehicle is stuck behind a large vehicle such as a lorry or bus how do the vehicles in front even know an emergency vehicle needs to be through? Most car drivers get there phones out at traffic lights and start texting/checking emails and arnt even looking forward, never mind using mirrors!
noticed a lot of the ambu drivers wear shades now [why?] the trub is if they drive up by you you cant see their eyes so second guess what their intentions are

If I were to be prosecuted for passing a red light to let a blue light through, logic dictates that I shouldn’t have done it.
There was a case in Hull not long ago of a woman who entered a bus lane to let an emergency ambulance through. The only reason she didn’t get done, iirc, was the bus lane enforcement was on a two week trial.

To protect their eyes from the harsh rays of the sun?
in my area they seem to wear most of the time a certain sort of shades looks as if its fitted close to the head [strapped on ] vaguely similar in look to motorbike goggles
