Eddie stobart job cuts

There are another couple of areas not touched on, first one is trailer hire ! As an O/d,mug or frachisee or whatever you are only supplying traction so there will be a reduction to reflect the costs of a trailer which might be charged/deducted at a flat weekly/monthly price or maybe at a pence per mile charge, either way it will mean a reduction in earnings expectation !! Then,of course, theres the thorny question of do you get payed for empty running,I would think not in ESL’s case ( we’re not a charitable organisation Son !) and if what I read about ESL’s cockeyed planning on the thread I would think that empty running will exceed laden operation by a wide margin !! All in all I would believe at best that embarking as an ESL O/D or mug would produce,at best, for the unfortunate individual a “break even” each week/month or at worst, more than likely, a situation where costs exceed earnings so there will be a Bill on it’s way for the difference from the ESL accounts office, sounds like nice work if you are prepared to pay ESL to operate on their behalf ! ADY1 IS GOING TO PROVE YOU WRONG. GAR!

Cant wait for him to prove that to us all.

Ady1 could possibly post a daily thread on this site to keep us up to speed on how well he was doing as one of the ESL “chosen ones”!! now that would be worth watching, far better than the Bollox they put on TV about the firm. Providing , of course he wasn’t doubling the numbers he was “divulging” so as to put a gloss on the scheme and cause a queue to form outside the Chuckle bros. offices. Cheers Bewick. :grimacing: :grimacing: :bulb:

Didn’t think he was a choosen one, thought he was just a plain driver

Surely a company the size of Stobart shouldn’t really need trampers for there general fleet maybe biomass but surely with there network of depots round GB with decent planning it could be done as drop and swap trunk runs.
Say one of the Averly trucks looks at Proctor&Gamble for Glasgow he heads up to the midlands swaps trailers with another truck and brings a load back south while the other truck heads north. Or is that to simple.

Probably too simple, as each truck will have to earn exactly £729.27 per week to cover its cost

I was just reminded on the ESL spotter thread, how many of the original Eddie Stobart owner drivers are still owner drivers or dare I say it, thriving businesses?

Were Alderson on for stobart once?

Agree with all you’ve said on here fellas re Stobbies - but you seem to be forgetting Stobbies have been shafting their drivers for years and years. Their drivers believe all the ‘we’re all part of one big happy family’ bollox and have been working for the kind of wages I’d expect a young lad working on the shelves in Sainsbury’s to be getting.

This new idea of theirs is truly genius though. We give you all the responsibility and hassle and we charge you for it. You can’t work for anyone else (so you are NOT an owner/driver as we have already said).and we get to call the shots, while you take all the responsibility…Hmmm.

It sounds almost like a franchising deal…maybe that will be Stobbies next move? Either way, anyone taking up their generous offer…is likely to get their fingers burnt…

Think thats what they are going to do, its already done some of the time.

I’m on agency in Chesterfield depot, and on friday deliverd a P&G load that had been left in Chesterfield to Asda Donny and Normanton. Then on Saturday delivered a Middlesborough Tesco truck to Lichfield and ran to Middlesborough and collected a trunk for Weybridge, dropped this in Chesterfield for onwards.

I might have got the wrong end of the stick here, but I thought the definition of being self employed (as a OD ) meant you were free to do work for other people and if you worked for the same company for more than 13 weeks you were classed as employed, and eligible for all the employee benefits. Pretty sure HMRC are trying to clamp down on this. They certainly are in the building trade.

reckon in a years time there will be a programme on five about stobart o/ds

Eddie Stobart- Tears and tantrums!

If you were an O/D in my day you had an “A” licenced motor or at very least a “B” licence and you could work for whom you chose oh! and you bought your own motor and taxed and insured it as well as bought your own tyres and derv !!! IMHO being an o/d for ESL is a joke it’s just a scam to get “out from under” employee obligations, where will their “O/D operational HQ” be ? Lagos ? or maybe Grand Caymen Isles,it has a better ring to it !! Cheers Bewick.

The trouble with those of us that have been around a few years is that we have got very cynical in that time. We tend to treat generous offers like this with suspicion. I wonder why?

Just when did this owner driver/but not really malarkey start? A lot of the brick companies and tarmac/road companies have operated like this for a very long time. I first worked for Stobarts maybe 10 years ago and they had owner operators then, in their own colours mind, and i got the impression they almost always had since they started?
Subbying is, although i’ve done it, assisting to cut your own throat. And like you say, and you’re not far off the mark, Stobart Group Ltd is registered in Jersey or Guernsey !!!
Many people still believe that Eddie Stobarts is a ■■■■■■■ haulier made good and if you slag them off then you’re jealous, they don’t realise that ‘Eddie Stobarts’ is in actual fact just a ‘brand name’ for numerous investment companies with some of the companies they bought out having very small shares in it. Indeed even Edward Stobart had filed for bankrupcy just before his death. As it is now its just a business model. A succesful one albeit, but thats all it is. Nothing more.

Stobart Group Ltd are registered in Guernsey, totally agree with the rest of your comment.

Yep, as far as HMRC are concerned you will be employed by Stobarts, you won’t be classed as self-employed

Quote from Direct Gov :

You are probably self-employed if you:

-run your own business and take responsibility for its success or failure
-have several customers at the same time
-can decide how, when and where you do your work
-are free to hire other people to do the work for you or help you at your own expense
-provide the main items of equipment to do your work

Looks like 2 yes’s and three no’s to me

there not trying to give me advice at all, there just trying to belittle someone whos prepared to try and better himself, why, because of there own failures to better themselfes, they hate the fact i will suceed where they havent.
which is where im different to them,id be telling that person,BEST of luck, hope you achieve what t
you want,if you dont at least youve tried.
whereas all there thoughts are HOPE he fails, then we cant rip the ■■■■ out of him.
whatever they say,im a better person than theyll ever be thats for sure :exclamation:
