Well if it’s true and you get the job, you won’t see much racing, as you’ll have the wrong pass, arrive Tuesday/Wendy, set garage up,or hostility, then put your smart clothes on as you will probably be a waiter all week in hostility, if your lucky a wheel cleaner. Most of the maclaren trukiee’s are from an agency, and do the gig regularly. Where’as when I was a lad the trukiee’s were put on the pit crew team, that stopped when it got more serious, and cost’s were looked at, testing teams disappeared…
If you want to do motor sport try the lower formulas, eg gp2, grp-c better still historical, but they all want some other skill except just being a steering wheel attendant.

I did one trip for Mercedes F1. As I lay on the deck of the yacht in Monaco harbour snorting lines of coke off Nicole Shirtswingers belly whilst Lewis filmed it I thought " [zb] this [zb], I’d much rather be delivering to Tesco Daventry" and promptly quit.
Don’t know about stobart but I was under the impression with the other teams you drove the truck there then done other jobs round the pits until it was time to come back.

The add I saw a few years ago added tyre fitting experience would be an advantage

F1 teams haven’t had their own race team staff drive the trucks for years, I think it was done because of trying to stay within the Drivers Hours and then the WTD and more fly away races really put a stop to it.
However most F1 teams do like their Truckies, or garage support personnel as they’re now, to have an HGV licence, but most of the guys I know haven’t driven a truck since they went to work for an F1 team.
As Concretejim said there are various companies that supply HGV drivers for the European rounds, some specialise in the work and normally use those that have worked in motorsport, even done a bit of it myself, they don’t tend to advertise as it’s done by word of mouth and then you have others like Stobarts who do the European season and then go back on General Haulage for the rest of the year.
Some of the Stobart drivers also double up as tyre fitters alongside the Pirelli staff, during the race week.
