Eaton Splitter box

You may not have heard about it, but it’s the reason they stopped making them, as Robert said, it was too noisy.

We couldnt get them when we got the 420 MAN as the Twinsplit was not build for that high torque, and Eaton didn’t build a Gearbox for Europe as the Sales were down, due the small Number of Driver who could shift a Unsyncron Gearbox,

The Twin-splitter was built for high torque and many went in ERFs with big ■■■■■■■■■ and in Ivecos with 520s in! Robert

newmercman:
That’s why they released the synchro box to the market. I had an MAN 464 Evolution with one in it, a much smoother box than the nasty ponderous ZF ecosplit alternative, but still nowhere near as smooth as a well driven 13spd could be.

I agree that a 9/13 Fuller was smoother! Robert

If you use the search button, you could write a book entitled, the history of life, according to carryfast

newmercman:
We’ve had the Americans having the right idea, ze Germans being useless,

Nuf said.Ze Germans gave the world the Ecosplit and the EPS amongst other synchro monstrosities :open_mouth: and the Americans did the 18 speed Fuller. While even the I shift is probably closer to constant mesh American Fuller than synchro European and suddenly all the ‘noise’ issues then seem to have disappeared. :smiling_imp:

Seems like more evidence that it was dodgy German driving standards that pushed the Eaton/Fuller option out of Europe not ‘noise’. :bulb:

There are different models of twin splitter to suit the torque requirements ,for example a 525 ■■■■■■■ will be mated to a 16 series , the smallest is 11 or 12 as in hundred feet of torque ,the m11 s use 13 series ,15& 16 series use bigger 3rd & 4th gears .

but i’d go back to a ■■■■■■■■ Eaton/Fuller, Rockwell combo in a Sed Ack 401 tomorrow.

I’d give you about a week. Old vehicles are nice to drive for fun now and again but you’d soon be woken up from your misty eyed nostalgia if you had to drive one of them for a living today. I get to drive a 97 143 and a 93 F12 now and again and it’s fun but my god I’m glad to get back to modernity after a day

Some people own fh13s ,105 autos & 95s ect and still prefer to drive their older ones with the twin splitter every day and let the drivers have the new ones

Yep, my 520 EuroStar had the electrics ripped out and a stick in their place, it sat on top of a Twin Splitter (forgot about that one) and if the box was weak the power that thing had would’ve destroyed in in no time, which it didn’t.

And some people buy ERFs, no accounting for taste…

I reckon you’d just about finish it by the time tescos Daventry have tipped 10 pallets, or the audio book would do you to Milan and back :stuck_out_tongue:

We will have to agree to disagree on that then .

I’d say tge Germans were ok with them man offered the twin splitter and Iveco which is part German Well in to the 90s

Which leaves the question of why the change from the great ,although driver critical, constant mesh ZF 12 speed splitter as used in the old DAF 2800 to the diabolical synchro ecosplit. :bulb:

Not to mention that Tiger v Centurion example. :smiling_imp: :open_mouth:

Blame the swedes they were building sychro trucks in the 60s maybe even earlier.

As for tanks I wouldn’t have a clue as the only knowledge I have of armoured vehicles comes from watching the A team in the 80s
