Eat more chips.Mortimers

jessicas dad:

Harry Monk:
£69 a day.

first thing that came into my head when i saw the thread as well.

I would’nt laugh to much

Without causing offence! Judging by your posts on other topics your driving a container truck, Which is probably the dullest job you could have compared to European work.

So id rather take the £69 or less a day doing continental work and have the challenge and nice scenery etc etc instead of going from 1 crappy port to another and sitting on a jam packed moterway inbetween :unamused:

You want scenery, take a holiday in the Lake District. Going to work is for earning money.

you can save up for a very nice holiday whilst earning more than £69 per day, but lets face it while you are are working for £69 a day you not ever going to save for any holiday.

What a pair of planks

1 thinks Lake District is same as the sights of Europe :open_mouth: ie:- Southern Spain, Italy, Greece, Russia and beyond.

And another laughing at another working mans wage

What’s your daily rate then? £100? £120? Your on a extra £20-£30 a day? But probably have more stressful or boring day then a bloke across the water. Rather take £70 a day and do continental. Purely for the cameradi (spelling mistake? ), Weekends away sight seeing or having drinks and getting paid to travel Europe.

And lets face it your not going to exactly get much job satisfaction out of container work are you :unamused:

“oo wow I’ve managed to pick a container up and drop it 20 minutes from where I start” :unamused:

i dont do containers anymore, are you sure you want to enter an arguement justifying a £69 a day wage for a possible 15 hours.

mmmmmmmmmmm £4.60 all hours… where do i sign.

There is only one plank here. They have a name in farming for people who do it for reasons other than making a profit, there called “hobby farmers” i reckon your a hobby driver. Go and tell the building society, i can’t pay the mortgage this month but i have seen some lovely scenery.
Camaraderie, PMSL maybe 20 years ago. Oh and by the way, i’m writing this from southern Spain. Even here you have to pay the bills.

I did google her! Are ye the cap’n of the ship?

Yes, have been on that one for the last two years or so, have mixed trucking and being at sea for the last 40 years or so but both jobs are buggered up now in my opinion by stupid rules, paperwork and the influx of east european cheap labour and their bosses undercutting the rates etc.

Underway in the Irish Sea at present? Do you travel further than UK coastal waters Ray?

I’m at home at the moment on leave. Due back about 11th March

Surely this must be a basic wage that can be topped up anyone who is willing to drive a truck in this say and age for. Just £69 a day is off there head what would you take after tax and ni about 50 quid

Was approached about a year ago by an elderly Polish driver piloting a Mortimers truck, to ask about wages/conditions where I was as where he was is quote"sit money, sit job" at the time i was working for S&K, what does that tell you

Harry Monk:
£69 a day.

Now,I drive mainly by Night… How’s then bout

Gunner, What is S&K like?

SK were looking a few weeks ago for uk drivers/euro-long weeks away/and Belgium drivers, home at weekends, they had a new contract, basic pay is low,and the bonus scheme is a bone of contention among drivers,as may not earn what you are promised, met a driver in Dover,he was quitting,as the garage took his motor for a service, with his kit in it.

Could be better treated with some consideration then Toby.

I once worked here for 12 years.

This was a great company to work for in the nineties. Always good kit, boss with a sense of humour who never chased, paid hourly for every hour you worked inc the extra ones aherm! paid in full while waiting to load for 2 days in Spain and Italy, paid in full when weekended, £80 extra a week on top for Spain.Accounts with all ferries and train choose your own according to work and time factor,Three good fuel cards, Michelin callout, Scania Merc or Daf callout,10kg box of chips and fill an apple box with as much fruit&veg as you could get in it.Borrow the company runabout if you were without transport.

This was once dead mans shoes to get a job with a great bunch of loyal drivers. How times change!!
So come on Toby Ovens follow in your Dads footsteps and build up a loyalty in your drivers and start by offering them a decent wage and treating them in the correct manner. It will pay the business big dividends in the long run.
