Easy/Mundane vs Challenging/Interesting Work

robroy:
Btw I also have little interest in the job these days compared to past times, it’s how it gets you the longer you do it.

It’s not just how long you’ve been doing it, technology has changed the job out of all recognition. You used to drive to Milan, tip, find a phone box and get your reload instructions. Nowadays if you stop for a ■■■■ they are on the phone two minutes later wanting to know why and you have a camera in the cab watching you pick your nose. I worked at one place where I had to walk up three flights of stairs because I hadn’t been trained in how to use the lift. (like, a lift like in a shopping centre where you get in and push one of two buttons depending on whether you want to go up or down).

It’s no wonder no-one wants to do it any more. Neither of my kids would be remotely interested in driving a truck. The industry has taken away all of the reasons why folk were prepared to put up with the crap and just left the crap.

Can’t argue with ANY of that Harry,.I reckon guys of our era deffo had the best years in the job… but then the d/heads and f/wits came along, infested it and started to run it. :bulb:

It’s improved in many ways with better trucks and virtually no more '‘cowboying it!’ …But it has also declined vastly in many other aspects, mostly brought about by those who in real terms know the far end of f/all about the job. :bulb:
Problem is there are many who know nothing else but this,…it’s normality to them poor ■■■■ ers. :frowning:
