Dubious daily walk round check

Bloody agency drivers. Hanging out the job with non-defects. “Not taking this out, there’s a marker light out” " not taking this out, the radio doesn’t work (if it’s fitted it must work)"

That’s a pretty good approach - if it’s fitted then it must work as designed.

If there’s a marker light out and this cannot be repaired even at base, then how does your company manage to operate when an indicator or a headlight fails?

As for having a working radio, that’s a basic condition of driving. If I turn up and it’s not working (and unless you’re given me prior warning and I’ve accepted the problem) then you need to find a portable one that can be used, or I’m off home.

Fair play on a working radio for live traffic reports for accidents, road closures and diversion routes .

It comes in handy. My radio wasn’t working when the 7/7 bombers struck and I was heading for Battersea. Luckily I received a phone call before I left the M25 and that was the first I knew about it so I aborted the delivery and headed back to base. My argument for having a working radio was accepted and it was fixed by next morning

the saddest part of reading some of these replies,is that some of them appear to be serious and true… :open_mouth:

Youre right, a joke is made of it but theres plenty of drivers out there with the attitude that if something doesnt work however trivial thats their excuse not to take it out. Fair enough if its something serious but blown bulbs/ broken lenses ect are an easy fix but some are so militant in their approach they actually refuse to do anything about it themselves but will refuse to drive it or call the workshop out to do it costing wasted hours :unamused:

I had to read this twice, but you mean they will call the workshop to carry out the repairs? Militant indeed! Calling a mechanic to carry out mechanical repairs, how unreasonable!

Try reading it again, only this time try and take it in. :unamused:

The thing is who services these vehicles!!!

Where I work we change them at 4mm and some at 6mm depending…

Really? We change at 3 MM which I thought was excessive!

Any trailers over 10 years bet done 6 weeks so we change at 4mm
Any under 10 years get done at 10 weeks so get changed at 6mm

Fronts and rears before you know it they get low!!!

Sometimes they get out the system so better safe than sorry eh!!!

Units get changed at 4mm they get done every 5wks

I’m a bit OCD when it comes to defects so people wait till next inspection as they will last but I would rather do it and forget about it
