Harry Monk:
This relentless surveillance and control is exactly what we used to flag up as totally unacceptable when it was carried out by the pre-1991 Communist regimes on their citizens. Now, it’s gone completely the other way and the Sheeple seem to be begging for more of it every step of the way.
Standard practice in the bus industry too. Driver is selected at random from the duty number. The person doing the selecting has no idea of the identity attached to that number. Some tests are capable of flagging up prescription drugs or over the counter remedies. Drug tests would normally be at sign on time. I can’t recall the figures, but the alcohol limit is way below the legal one.
When buses are operating a railway replacement service, several duty numbers can be selected again at random, and a representative of the train company will carry out a breath test at a lay-over point.
I always leave the used test tube so that passengers can see it, reasoning that I would feel reassured as a passenger getting on a bus, particularly in such circumstances, to know that the driver is sober and that someone is ensuring that that is the case.

so you leave a bottle (test tube) of ■■■■ on dashboard so passenger can see you have been to the loo.
or have i got it wrong again
ok my ten pence worth personally i dont do drugs in fact i rarley drink but i dont see taking drugs any worse than someone having a drink yet there is a tollerance for drink but not drugs which i find strange as abuse of either isnt acceptable when in control of a motor car or truck but if social drinking is acceptable why isnt recreational use of drugs ? As for random testing surley this needs to be on a leval playing field as others have said cannabis can still show in your system months after use Soon you wont even be able to smoke a ■■■ in your own car ! its getting stupid, this country is turning into a nanny state where your personal freedom is being eroded more and more
They do these tests if you are loading or unloading at the large oil/fuel refineries in Northern France, the lady in the office has all the kit, you blow in the machine, if you are over , they park you up for 8 hours and told to come back later.
Exxon Mobile was the firm, not far from Le Havre.
That’s rich coming as it does from the king of ‘anti slip mats’ & ‘strap every pallet’ brigade!!! (pot calling kettle dirty arse??)
You really crack me up Saaamon, I don’t drink alcohol or take any illegal drugs so by your reconing I live a “boring life”? In 2008 + 2009 I raced a motorbike @ British GP, WSB, BSB & UEM (European Championship) meetings & whether or not you like motorcycles, I can’t imagine how you could call the life of this none drinker, smoker & drug taker “boring”!!!
On the subject of random testing, my boss has been told by his insurers he should introduce it, but as I understand it, you cannot be forced to take it as it’s totally voluntary on the drivers behalf!!
Check your rights, if an RDC for example (not your employer) says “you have to take this test”, get them to put this in writing & tell them you won’t take any test till you have it, & not on a poster, on a letter you can take away with you.
Mike-C:
Oh, and Sainsburys have done drug and alcohol tests for donkeys. Done them too.
About bloody time too! I’ve lost count of the number of seaside family holidays I’ve had ruined by gangs of ■■■■■■ up donkeys smoking foot long spliffs abusing passers by outside Wetherspoons.
I think you got that wrong, they are testing their own brand whiskey for traces of donkey ■■■■.

They introduced random drug and alcohol testing at my previous place of work about 6 years ago. In the 4 years I stayed there, it never happened. I was later told by a member of the management that “threatening” random tests was something they had to do to satisfy the insurers and that it was never likely to actually happen. The main reason being it is quite expensive.
On the reverse side, when i worked on the Oil Rigs, there was always the threat of random drug and alcohol tests. Well they never really happened until…
The rig or company was losing a big contract, and then everyone was tested at great expense, as it was cheaper then redundancy payments.
good the amount of drivers i have met that are smoking weed day in day out then driving 44 tonnes sack the lot of em b4 they kill. got nothing against weed but the 2 do not go together ,any one who dissagrees should not hold a licence ,as if you knew someone was over limit would you let them drive a truck .

The old bill can already do this. Let them deal with it. Why are there so many ■■■■■■■ sheep in this country who have a fetish for further trapping us all in the bloody system. If you’ve met these drugged up Herbert’s I trust you jumped on them and held them for the police to arrest?
