Are you one of those “tried cannabis once but didn’t inhale” type of guys?
The problem with drug testing is a lot of drugs remain traceable in your system long after you’ve taken them and long after the effects have completely worn off.
Nope, never tried any drugs or smoked, I do drink, but only when I’m not due to go to work, and stop in plenty of time to make sure I’m not under the influance for work.
Very commendable too. What we need are more responsible people like you. Well done.
One of our drivers got sacked recently for failing drugs test at customers premises.
He dropped his loaded trailer on its knees, smashing the legs and damaging the Tarmac.
Customer insisted he took a test, which he duely failed. They said he had traces of drugs in his system.

Up here in the mining industry random drug and alcohol tests are the norm for both above and underground workers.Alot of the service vehicles have a breathalyser fitted to the ignition which has to be used every time you start the vehicle. This is considered an integral part of works safety due to the risks and effect which could arise underground if an accident occurred keeping in mind there are trucks running at 100t gross 1500m underground.
I suppose its good if the right equipment is used. I got called in when i knocked the barrier off its bracket at Sainsburys Hams Hall, they never actually did the test, but called in a mobile doctor at a cost of £600, so i was told, anyway i was a bit worried because i take a coctail of drugs because of my heart condition, and wondered if this would affect the result, i was assured No, they would be picked up and discarded for the test, all was fine, and i also had to take a urine test as well, which were under special conditions ie, the toilet was normal, but a dye was put in in case you used the water to dilute the urine, the dye was placed before allowing you to use the toilet, and was inspected afterwards, then flushed, and sainsburys told me that any driver ( including their own ) was liable to be searched, tested, whilst on any one of their premises.
So allof this, for a barrier that they lowered while i booked in, and didnt notice till i hit it, and the fact that it was held on with quick snap bolts, which means the barrier can be put back on very quickly, and with no damage.

What a boring life…

My lifes far from boring, and I definatly ain’t a goody 2 shoes. But why risk your livelyhood for a drink or a spliff? In the right circumstances I can put away as much beer/cider as the next person, definatly did my bit to drink the bar dry at the Trucknet do
As I now work mainly in the rail industy, a suspension of my PTS for drink or drugs would be the end of my work on th railway. You only get a years suspension if you get caught, but when you get it back you’ll be very lucky to find anyone to employ you.
IMO its to much, first the dcpc now the possibility of randomn drug /drink checks throughout the work day…will trampers be available for the call from the minute they clock in say sunday till friday when they clock out what next?
dont tell me that its only one company as once it starts loads of others will follow, funny thing though why stop at the drivers put all the office & managment into the pot as well.
So goodbye to the can o ale at the end of a summers day ,and remember you dont have to smoked it for you to fail, going to a party wi a few tokin an you will have inhaled enough to show positive (or so i was informed at my last test).
I enjoy a beer or two …dont smoke …BUT i believe what you do in your own personal time is nothing to do wi your job…its still a free country or so they say!!
jimmy.

Did they test the prat that lowered or allowed it back down?

It shouldn’t be a risk, that’s the problem.
Cannabis can remain traceable in your system for weeks if not months after use. Someone under the threat of random drug tests cannot go to Amsterdam and smoke a fat spliff (which would be perfectly legal) without putting their livelihood at risk. That’s not right and that’s the problem.
Surely even a clean living guy like yourself is open minded enough to realise that?
yorkshire terrier:
if its true it can only be a good thing.
the only ones i know who object to these sort of tests are the ones with something to hide…
My company doesn’t, but one of the sites I deliver too has a similar system, I’ve somehow avoided it so far though.
Personally, I don’t mind as I’ve nothing to hide. I do drink but only when I’ve over 20 hours or so before I’m back on the road, and have never tried any drugs or even a cigarette!

I do understand your point. And there must be a way round this, as I know of a few people who I work with who occasionally use cannabis but passed the rail D&A test, much to their suprise. I don’t know if they can do it on an amount in your system kind of test.

+1 h.c,I’ve never took drugs, tried one ■■■ and hated it,but can still have some great night out.
We have to undergo random drink/drug tests at our place. There’s been two lads sacked recently for failing due to wacky backy. The only trouble is that our tests also show positive on some prescribed medicines so one lad had two extra weeks off at Christmas while they checked the results. And thats after he’d already told them what he was taking
Sounds good but not for those of us who have to pick up his work
Mike-C:
Oh, and Sainsburys have done drug and alcohol tests for donkeys. Done them too.
About bloody time too! I’ve lost count of the number of seaside family holidays I’ve had ruined by gangs of ■■■■■■ up donkeys smoking foot long spliffs abusing passers by outside Wetherspoons. [/qote]
love it!!!
Hiya… 20 years ago at shotton steel works the drivers got breth tested at 5am monday morning starting work.
18 of them got the sack on the spot for over the drink drive limit. reason unfit to work.
John
it wouldnt bother me if this did happen. i am very anti drug so no worries there and i very rarely drink (my last was about a year ago i think) and even when i do i have a 2 drink limit
