nice car …cardboard and papier-mâché , my uncle had a 7
I got stopped in 1983 the very day that wearing seat belts became compulsory. Smart arse cop pulls me and says I’m getting a fine for not wearing it. Ok I reply, if you can figure it out and fasten it I accept your fine. I was driving a 1963 Austin 1100 given to me by my great uncle. The seat belt mechanism needed a degree in physics and the cop spent about 5 mins before conceeding that he couldn’t work it either. He told me to “sort it out sharpish” and let me off with a warning. I never did suss out how to fix the thing properly, and resorted to tying it round itself so that I didn’t keep getting pulled.

This was my A7 - sold her now, as she wasn’t getting much use
Upgraded to a Wolseley 9
I have the view that if a driver gets injured because they were not wearing a belt then they should be made to pay towards their care
Not a 7. A 1962 Morris 1000
You do not want points but do you want a smashed up face for the rest of your life? NOT WISE.

Er, why didn’t you just remove it/them? I had a 1964 Austin 1100 back in the early '90s and from memory it didn’t actually need to have them fitted. I think the start date for mandatory front belt fitment was 1st Jan 1965.
The other car I didn’t wear a belt in was a 1969 Reliant Regal. For those (under the tricycle weight limit) didn’t have to have them until Sep '70.
Chill out Albion, FFS.

I am quite chilled thanks…I just cannot understand drivers that are stupid enough not to wear a seatbelt…
Our lot got stung more a massive bill off brs truck rental, they said we had been clipping the belts in a sitting on them causing the fibres in the belts to go iffy and the belts frayed,if you ever rent a truck check the seat belts there about 300 quid a pop and you cant argue when you dehire them
Got done last year, Hampshire plod, no points offence but had to take an on-line course for £36, van camera, no excuse really, always wear one now.
No big deal, have always worn one in a car, so…
I drive buses and some of them dont have a belt for the driver. One has an S plate and the other is on a W plate.I am often on my way when I remember that I have a belt.I had a conversation with VOSA so dont want that again.
In a truck. Or a car? I always wear it in my car, never in my truck, any copper that does a truck driver for no belt isn’t British in my opinion.

I was 18…didn’t have the brain power to do something like that!
Mate of mine was done for not wearing his seatbelt earlier this year think it was £60 but will stand corrected on the sum
I hate waring seat belts alway have ( learnt to drive before this was law ) this is partly due to height as they tend to cut across my neck
Always worn a seatbelt but a driver for a different company that operates from our yard was killed in a crash on the A34 for not wearing one… ‘It won’t happen to me’ mentality is just burying your head in the sand, I’ve accepted the fact that at some point in my driving career I could quite well be in a serious accident and the seatbelt could be the one thing that saves me.

A long time ago now in another world when you didnt have to wear a seat belt but they were there & advised to wear them knew a couple who were involved in an accident fortunate for them they weren’t wearing seat belts otherwise they would have been killed

I’m sure there’s cases like this for and against where people believed it did/didn’t save someone’s life. The truth remains however that they certainly cut down on injuries in the majority of accidents.
I used to never wear one (driving buses I didn’t need to as they weren’t fitted) but now I always do be it in a car or truck.

That’s an interesting idea and I can see the reasoning behind it, but out of fairness wouldn’t you then have to apply the same rule to anyone who was injured in an accident that was partly of their own making ?

Dose it matter Tacho the rule is seatbelt on, so if you don’t have it on you pay.
