Never ever laugh at the poor souls broken down or else the Gods of Tarmac WILL take their revenge on you!
The same when you see the traffic queued back miles on the other side of the motorway.
When I was on tilt work I used to believe you got jinxed trailers, as it seemed the moment you hooked onto it the job went to [ZB] and stayed that way until you dropped the thing off again.

… If they’re in my neck of the woods, they get greeted with lead pepper
Why ?
Because they’re classed as pests.
And they’re destroying the native song bird population.
They don’t have a ‘predator’ as such, so they’re the top of their food chain…
And also, are not really ‘controlled’ either now…
No one understands that they are really destructive to birds smaller than them…
The RSPB and the BTO certainly don’t think they are pests and long term studies have proven they have no affect on song bird numbers.
Some people seem to get upset that they eat other birds eggs (which is odd since we eat 12.3 billion eggs per year in the UK) and the shooting fraternity don’t like them as they can be damaging to intensively raised grouse and pheasant which posh bankers like to shoot.
Yes there has been massive collapses in wild bird populations over the past 40 years (many species have lost in excess of 50% of their numbers) but this decline is without doubt due to intensive agriculture to feed our population explosion
It is absolute nonsense to blame Magpies, think about it; Magpies have co-existed along with all the other birds in vast numbers for hundreds of thousands of years, the decline in songbirds was not evident until the 1980’s
Since 1970 farmland birds have decreased by 60%
Since 1970 global human population has increased by 90%
Is it really the Magpies that we should be shooting?

Quickly getting back onto topic - I never had any driving superstitions, but for reasons I don’t quite get and I may have been doing this for 40 years, every time I see a new moon I grab some money go outside (have been known to stop in next layby and get out of cab) and turn the money over once - apparently it means you will not be short until the next new moon.
Tris:
Another superstition of sorts of mine is odd numbers. Radio volume can never be set at 21 or 23, it must be 20, 22, or 24.
Yeh but seriously mate,… that aint superstition, that is OCD.
If it was me I would be keeping all this magpie/even number stuff to myself, like a close guarded secret tbh…Does your boss know about this.?.. or is all this coming clean to the public part of your Therapy Programme ?
I’ve heard that if you wear a hat made of tin foil ‘The Voices’ can not get to you.
Wasn’t sure whether to post this because of the possible reaction but what the hell.
Not a superstition as such but if I am settling down to sleep in a lay-by, msa or truck stop and can hear the night drivers roaring past on the carriageway, I always think " goodnight fellas, drive carefully and get home safe"
Soppy I know, but it makes me feel better somehow.
Personally I dont turn the radio to 9 or 13 (not sure why) but not got any others that I am aware of. Do the same thing with the TV however.
As for the tin foil hats - doesn’t seem to work as it just echos the noise from the ones already inside!
Dont worry Puggy, you soon learn to give as good as you get on this forum. I sispect nany of us think the same thing…or maybe just “please drive carefully and dont hit my mirrors”.
