It would be worth the money to pay for a driver and flat bed trailer, it seems a lot of hassle the other way.
I’v been in contact with a few companies about sending the truck via sea freight, cargo train and on the back of a lorry. Still the most economical which is the deal breaker seems to be to drive it.
So if anyone is looking for some freelance work including limeyphil, please let me know
Thanks
To get a driver to drive it to Bulgaria is gonna cost ya, i have a home near Bourgas, so its no problem, but i will want payment, plus hotels en route, of course the other questions is, if its de-commisioned, will it come under tacho regs, being over 3.5ton, thers a lot to consider, so i would opt for the trailer route, and thats gonna cost ya, a flat trailer will have trouble getting a back load, more so than a tilt, curtainsider, which would lower costs, but i reckon its gonna cost you over a grand.

you been sniffing glue again toby ? your average flatbed bed stands at about 4 foot 8 inches and your run of the mill fire engine is give or take around say 11 foot give or take so if you take your shoes and socks off that comes to about 15 foot 8 yes ■■?
now i am not as experienced as some on here but anything over 13 foot 3 and a bit is gonna get a bit messy dnt cha think ?

I’ve been spending to much time with Toby

As somebody just wrote, Serbia is the only one on your route that’s not a member of the EU. You need to pay for the motorways in all countries, But, you can avoid using the toll motorways in Hungary. In this case, your journey becomes longer by a couple of hours, but scenic routes are relaxing…![]()

Any info you need about Hungary, just ask
Unless you are over 12t or something, then you are obliged to use motorways.
limeyphil:
The best thing to do in my opinion is give the job to an experienced european hgv driver. Me perhaps?
Or to the one who speaks few Eastern European languages and will be able to communicate with everyone on the way (except for Hungarian) and with the uncle at the end of the journey as well
Being serious I think that due to the nature of the vehicle, that is likely to draw attention of the authorities, it might be an advantage to have someone who speaks languages and understands eastern european way of thinking
We would all like to know how you get on with this, is Limeyphil going to drive it down or Orys?Do the blue flashing lights work and the two tone, if i was driving it, the blues and twos would be on all the way down, if you get pulled or get a "tug", just tell them you are on the way to a fire a few thousand miles away, and the longer you get delayed answering their questions at the roadside, the damm fire will be out by the time you get there. Maybe hire a fireman
s uniform to look the part.

Many thanks for that TT, i have a poetic licence, a very good post was the one about Richard Long, there was a lot of negative vibes going at them, then somebody that had worked for them set the record straight, and put the firm in the right light, the post made sense, the part about a driver wanting a 20 min phone call would not be feasible when the bosses are flat out all day running a farm and truck firm, i would get a bit grouchy if a driver was moaning he wanted to come home for the weekend and he knew what euro work is like, long periods away from home, that is life.
after saying yes i’ll do the job for him, he disapeared.
wind up?
it looks like it. shame really, it would have been a good laugh.
A great laugh, with Luke,Carryfast, Limey,Orys, taking it turns to drive non stop there.

That could end badly… See, with the team as us four, there would be probably heated discussion. And then, without benefits of the discussion board, some rules should be introduced, so we won’t shout at each other and jump to each other’s faces. So for example we make the rule that only the one behind the wheel can talk…
And then imagine, Carryfast gets behind the wheel in Calais and, as usual, he starts talking some crap, that is loosely related to what we were talking before, and is basicly about how French are to blame for everything that ever happened to Britain. Then, as the journey progresses, he refuses to let anyone else behind the wheel, as he hasn’t finished yet. As we travel, he changes smoothly to blaming Luxembourgs, Germans, Poles, Ukrainians, Russians - you all know, when he starts, there is no way to stop him…
And then, finally, the truck with the bodies of the creme de la creme of the Trucknet Community is found few hundred metres off shore, near Vladivostok…

Orys both you and all the others seem to have missed the point that an old FL6 fire truck, especially being that it obviously hasn’t got a speed limiter fitted,at least with me driving it,just ain’t going to make it to Luxembourg, let alone Serbia, before it’s motor either grenades itself or cooks itself or a combination of both. But I can just imagine everyone then blaming me for it all as we’re standing there waiting for a wrecker to take it to where it was meant to be going.Hopefully the OP has negotiated a spare engine as part of the deal when the FL was purchased and budgeted for the bill from the British,French or Belgian wrecker operator to take it to Serbia.
Orys you have a valid point, i do not think we would make it to Dover let alone Calais, there would be a arguement for the keys as to who was driving to the port.I think Bertie could do the whole leg on his own, what with being an experienced euro driver.
