last job i had we had a female tm restricted o license own goods everyday she was on the phone to me and when i got back to the yard i helped with the routing 12 lorrys multidrop so i,ve had a little bit of experience .i,m thinking about this seriously. i,ve been driving for 21yrs now i,m 44 in oct and not sure i want to be driving trucks for the next 20 yrs.so think i might give it a go" nothing ventured nothing gained" and if it do,nt work out i can always get back behind the wheel . thanks for your comments
Ive done a desk job, admittedly not a run of the mill desk job, but a desk job none the less as a railway station announcer until I got sacked
I would definately consider it, if the money was right
I went from artic to office once. The TM jacked the job in, I was asked to ‘step in’ for a while. I did 6 months as TM, we had 42 vehicles plus a few more hire ones. The job itself was ok, but all the office bickering was a real pain. I worked 0700 - 1500 Monday to Friday. They offered to make the position permanent but I declined, it made me realise that being on my own in a lorry was far more rewarding than extra money in an office. I would say to anyone thinking about it, if you like people, go for it. If you value your independance, dont bother, you’re better off on the road.
