Never mind nights out…whatever would some do faced with 26 pallets of soap powder (or some other type of water sensitive load) a flat tri axle, a heap of sheets and a bundle of rope
Things have got far too easy and the spoilt ones will always be after a pay rise / moan about wages while driving a brand new top of the range truck and a curtainsider…or worse…having to do a night out or travel further than the next cafe…
Here we go, the roping and sheeting card has been pulled!
Thought it would never come [emoji23] [emoji23]
All we need now is the twin splitter for a full house
And an ERF with a 320 ■■■■■■■ that defied the laws of physics by going faster the more weight you put on it…

There’s an Eaton twin split in the natural history museum next to a dinasor skeleton and a sign saying they were from the same time period

Never beat a twin splitter.
you haven’t lived if you ain’t mastered the Eaton twin splitter
Last week I had 4 deliveries.
3 between Derby and Grantham.
1 Just South of Edinburgh.
One driver said “sod that, be bothered driving all the way up there”
I replied “nice and easy drive up the A1 , getting paid to listen to the radio and look at the lovely views”
He’s went to London
I also find my week goes faster tramping. It ■■■■■ to be away from the Mrs, but we can make up for it at weekends.

I never lived like the current trampers. I think they’re treated like mugs these days.
Do you mean you stayed in digs or something?
and how do you reckon we are treated like mugs?..(may even agree with you btw)
Hi Robroy. Back in the day most drivers parked up in a proper lorry park in town centres at around 5 or 6 oclock, got washed and changed and went out for a proper meal. A meal which a working man might deserve after a days work. Then on for a pint and a look around the town. No night heaters mind! When I worked for Tescos in the 80
s we all stayed in guest houses and hotels.
I have fond memories of some great nights out all over the country.
It all changed when someone invented 24hrs in the day and someone else decided that it would be ok to work 15 of them.
Bring on in-cab microwaves and rest reductions and youve got a modern tramper. This is a generalisation of course, but I
ve seen nothing to make me want to spend a week on the road now.
Im more than happy to let someone else do it, but I don
t feel the need to justify my position as day driver.
The notion that Im not a proper driver unless I
m away from home is too ludicrous to answer.
As has been said, there are many, many jobs that don’t require the driver to go long distances or do nights out. So for those who don’t want to do such things, they just need to look around. Personally spent too many years sleeping in a moving steel box to want to repeat it now, much prefer my own bed at home with the wife. So I have a job that does not entail nights out, and that even for the distance work is easily doable in a 9.
If that makes me any less of a driver, crack on.

Know what you mean there…but no chance of anything being sucked being away for three weeks at a time…

That’s why I only do one and be a good boy when I’m home! [emoji14]
