Drivers today...wtf

Stick a camping tent on the catwalk. Can’t be in the cab if you are outside it.

Here’s the thing though, parking is free across vast areas of Europe in the truckstops is it not? At least in Germany it was when I was over there.

I’m one of them new generation drivers, only a few months of class 1 work (mind you, I’m pushing 50). If you crossed paths with me, you may very well come out thinking I’m an a**hole. Or not. I suppose it depends. I’ll give a few examples:

New starter girl, same company but belonging to a different depot. She’s going towards the yard to drop her trailer, and I’m coming up right behind her. I stop short of the yard, giving her ample space to swing. Turns out, she’s really inexperienced. It took her 15 min. to do an easy reverse, plus she’s bouncing her trailer of the other trailers (I could hear loud crunching). I sat in my cab and watched the whole time. As an aside, I’m driving a 19 plate, she’s driving near new kit. She might have been a really nice person, who knows, but I’m not going to help a diversity hire.

Elephant racing. Let’s say I’m being overtaken by a fractionally faster truck. I will only slow down if he gets in trouble mid way, otherwise I carry on at the same speed and flash them when they’re done. If it take a whole 5 minutes, so be it. I’ve been given the ‘coffee shaker’ gesture once or twice. Yeah, you can f*** off and all, we all have places to get to.

Greeting fellow drivers that fly the same colours. Do I do it? No, unless I get flashed first. I used to do it with all, and got nothing back half of the time. Mind you, these are drivers I don’t personally know, but still.

Drivers in my own yard. I get along great with some, others I completely ignore nowadays. Apparently I wasn’t apprenticey enough towards (some) elders when I first came in. This is not 1987, plus some of your cabs are stinking and I have to drive the bloody things.

Rightly or wrongly, neutral stance is the sweet spot for me. Camaraderie, in my opinion, is when even the bad apples have a minimum of standards. That might have been the case back in the day, but nowadays everyone is looking after themselves for the most part. Deep down I think there is some basic tacit realisation amongst ourselves that we’re doing the dog’s work, so we’re not scraping at each other too badly, but this is far from the pleasantries robroy is expecting.

That ^^ has far less to do with the type of driver you are but speaks volumes of the type of person you are. Nothing wrong with that by the way, it is what it is.

Tbh mate some of the stuff you mention is EXACTLY what I expect…I find in life if you don’t aim to high with people you are never dissapointed.

In fact it may surprise you I am guilty of at least one of your list …when it comes to some drivers in the firm I work at for example.
One or two are fine, but most of the time my zero tolerance to d/heads kicks in with otherd.

As for helping someone new, I will when I can…but from what you have written it seems the difference is the chip on my shoulder aint anyehere near as big as yours I m thinking…(rightly or wrongly.)

As Maoster says, nothing wrong with that we all have our own ways, our own character and own personal levels of tolerance toeards other people and situations.

Can’t be arsed to go through and itemise rest of your list as this effin site is playing up with me and I can no longer list and embed quotes. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:
Cheers.

Cheers lads, all in good humour :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
