I recently partially registered to work for an agency with a colour in its name.
They have a scheme where you have pay deducted weekly as an insurance against you damaging their clients’ vehicles.
I cant give full details as once I realised that, I stopped filling in the application and “walked…”
They’ve contacted me a few times since with work offers… Funny they seem to struggle to find drivers… !!

As for anyone questioning my own spine, I can promise you I have tested it many times.
…IF I decided to go full Rambo in front of an employer there would be obvious & clear criminal damage for all to see. The financial cost to me would be large, no doubt. What would be a greater cost is the ‘boss’ making an example of me and further frightening other drivers who are terrified of their other halves and/or paying their mortgage.
You’re too coward to do something and accept the consequences of your own actions, small balls, which is why you tell people to skulk around and do things the cowards way because you don’t have the courage of your own convictions. That’s the difference between you and me. When I kick off it’s done right in front of them so there’s no confusion over the fact I’m angry. I don’t go stabbing people in the back like you.
At first I was struggling with the idea that someone could be a driver-agency company owner, while:
(i) advocating criminal damage as a way to deal with a company’s policy which unfairly penalises drivers
(ii) proposing a loosely defined but fairly obvious-in-meaning ‘meeting’ as a way to resolve differences of opinion on the internet, (which are the most pointless of all differences of opinion)
(iii) but most importantly, assuming the agency is ran as a limited company (and considering the nature of the industry, why would it not be?) risk a criminal prosecution for (i) and (ii) when a company director can be barred from operating as such for up to 15 years following a criminal conviction?
Then I remembered my former employer had a manager who fits this description very well, and who (after running a previously successful business into liquidation) set up his own agency/recruitment company which does cover HGV driving, though I would imagine the inevitable outcome of the HSE fatality-investigation will probably put a stop to his company directorship.
All in all, some good reasons there for avoiding driving agency work.

The URTU ?..Are you having a chuckle or what.
In my experience they are a waste of space.
I paid my subs since 07, needed a bit of help for first time just last year, and got no joy whatsoever.
I did repeated attempts to get to talk to somebody, after waiting time and time again for the courtesy of them even returning my call…they never did.
Eventually had to leave my message with switchboard eventually for them to inform the appropriate official, I eventually got a e.mail (not a call) telling me they could not help.
E.mailed them to vent my dissatisfaction and to politely tell them what to do with their Union…again no response.
When my card had expired after 3 months of me not paying any subs,.got a letter asking why I had not paid,…followed by a new card a month later.
Bunch of incompetents.

Btw this is coming from somebody who is not anti Union by any means…just anti URTU.
