I always apologise regardless of who’s fault it is.As another said, we’re the company rep…the only face they’ll see.
+1
Also I’d have called them, if practical and said I’m running late, soz.
if i was the boss, i’d sack the driver for not phoning ahead to tell the customer, that he’s running behind and will be there at x.■■ o’clock.
why do some drivers act like [zb]ing chimps?

Paid to drive, not to ring customers and provide running commentary. It’s those see a deadline and drive like an idiot to meet it that ruin this job. I arrived ontime to my first delivery this morning; wanted first thing yet builders not ready for it. Did I ring office or next customer? Did I ■■■■. I’ve stopped for break now even though this load’s late and my hours aren’t up yet. Might sound awkward but if I rush I still wont get thought anymore of.

Thank God there is some intelligent life left in this industry. Why rush to these places, the odds are they will still keep you waiting to be tipped.

the way i see it, is it’s good manners, and helps keep a good relationship with the customer, and the company you work for.
maybe i look at things a bit differently than some, but i was my own boss for a long time.

If it gets the job done what’s the problem. Those that say they wont apologise are the same people that bump into you in a shop and then look at you as if you’ve just crawled out of a sewer.
Ah yes the customer relationship that says “We’ve made you wait for an hour can you waste some more time and spread the gravel down the drive 'cos we’re too lazy”…Or the customer that has to tell me in detail what they’re doing. I don’t care what they’re using it for, whether it’s the right colour or what spec it’s certified for. We have sales reps paid more and regarded more highly than me for it to interest me in the slightest.
Apologising:
does not always mean you are wrong and the other person is right.
It just means you value your relationship more than your ego.
