I’d love to give that a go

I think that every time I see Taylor Swift!

Don’t do that because it’ll invariably end in tears and she’ll sing some whiney song about you.

Very good Luke. I looked at the pics for ages wondering what point you were trying to make! In my defence it is late and I am stupid.

I doubt I could remember the 12 speed Foden shift pattern now, but I always thought the DB 6 speed was a luverrly box. I remember aiming eight leggers at corners when loaded, and I was ■■■■■■■ terrified of roundabouts.

I would consider that fair recompense for a go on her!

that 12 speed shift sequence is still imprinted on my brain after 50 years . low 2nd , low 3rd ,direct 1st and splits up the box . or low 2nd , 3rd , 4th ,direct 2nd and up the box , and i havn’t used one since 1982 .

File that under “Things you never forget”, Rigsby.
And what about the newly-promoted ex Bedford and Ford drivers who complained about the “missing gear” on a David Brown 'box?

Absolutely - as long as she didn’t sing during, she could do what she liked after!

And I haven’t used one since 1970.

A new age driver…in a 50’s motor…that i would love to see, crash box …no power steering, i can just here the cursing effin and jeffin, its knackered mate ! no it isnt, double de clutching …wots that ? …lol…seen it before when i was on roadtrains…drivers that didnt make 400 yds down the road…crawling back curseing its bolloxed mate gearbox is shagged…is it ? was ok half an hour ago, dont get me wrong i love some new motors…autobox cruise…etc, but i loved my old roadtrain …no limiter pulled like a frikin train …enough room when i was away all week…comfy to drive, less bullshine , less redtape, less H@S morons…and finaly no DCPC !..

I’m a ‘new age driver’ and my first 401 had a Fuller gearbox, my first sleeper cab Atkinson was coachbuilt, the night heater was an extra blanket and one of the best lorries I ever drove was an ex BAe Freighter. Not only that, the old sweats, who I now know hardly had a clue what they were doing themselves (apart from a couple of notable exceptions) would happily stand around and let you make a mistake, rather than point you in the right direction. Yeah, being the new guy was fun in ‘the Good Old Days’.

Nice to see that some aspects of British Haulage haven’t changed…
