This is the new ATS training video, quite scary, but safe. Not so sure the dental work was very good on the lad talking though…

Interesting video Malc. 12 tonnes of force when the tyre blows is just a bit .
Anyone remember the incident a few years ago up by the M62/M1 junction area, where a driver lost a wheel. He went down the embankment to recover it, it subsequently blew the tyre, and with it blew the drivers head off
Never underestimate the danger of inflating tyres, in my spannering days i would always lock the airline on and stand at full extent of the hose, this came after my brother had a cheap remould go on him while inflating it. He had it on the floor and was knelt down , when it went. He cant even remember it going, came too feet away with his jeans shredded like cowboy chaps hanging from the waistband and his t shirt gone altogether, had ringing in his ears for days and some how chipped all his front teeth, dont know if this was caused by the blast of air or the air hose hitting them. People in the garage used to take the ■■■■ out of the way i inflated tyres ,till i told them the story.
jeez, the same force as being hit by a 12 tonner
we recently had some trucks suffer a couple of bent rims on route from latvia, to moscow, because of the crap road along the way. one lost a fair bit of its pressure, so we limped, (luckily not far) to a road side tyre repair place. they seemed well used to this, and set about sorting the rim, after they’d removed it from the truck, and totally deflated it the guy did his best to put it right.
i remember as he was re-inflating, he made a point of making us all stand well clear, now i know why.
Dont worry too much about the lorry tyres. A car tyre can kill you just as well.

One of our drivers today was telling me of an incident which happened last week up near York. A driver had a bent rim on his trailer so he took it back to the garage to get it fixed. So, he picked up a sledge hammer to knock the rim back into shape best he could but on impact the tyre blew out. This resulted in his foot being blown off by his ankle and later found 80 yards away with his boot still on, the tyre also shredded and slashed his face until he was unrecognisable and the air from the tyre actually entered his body and blew him up to twice his size. Never ever again will I attempt any repair where a tyre is involved! This guy is lucky to be alive and it just goes to show how trying to help someone out or save a bit of money can go horribly wrong.
If this isn’t truckers bull ■■■ i don’t know what is
"It is thought the couple had changed the tyre on the BMW Z3, after noticing a bulge in it, but that Capt Wilcox was holding it because the boot was full of luggage.
It is not known what caused the tyre to blow up. "
Surprising what you find reasonable intelligent people doing. I know it’s a convertible with nowhere else to put a spare wheel, but I certainly wouldn’t be keeping hold of a tyre which was removed for the very reason that it was likely to suddenly go bang. It’s tragic that it didn’t cross her mind to let the air out of it first.

It is a great shame after her service record with people chucking IED’s at her
the driver was for a tipper company at york, he was trying to repair the bent rim but after being told not to bother he persisted and on the third attempt of blowing it up the tyre soap started blowing out but before fitter could stop him it blew causing server damage to his foot and ankle and injuring a parts delivery driver with a block off wood. The driver had his foot amputated later in hospital about half way down his shin.

It would be a shame to let the truth get in the way of a good story
this truck ran over summat on the 25 yesterday and blew both o/s drive tyres but they never noticed this on the n/s until it came into our place for inspection today
jayeastanglia:
same as you dont go picking stones out of the tread on a hot tyre in case it blows up,which happended to the poor bloke on the A14 near copdock a few years ago.
I was at the front of the road closure when they were trying to save this guy. They failed. Not pretty. Haven’t been near a stone in a tyre with the ignition key since.

Looks like a dodgy remould . . fair play for crawling under and taking a photo

I have had many a job in my time but the most scariest was tyre fitting on a lorry plant or car. I actually had a fork truck rim explode on me on a press in the back of my van. luckily the shards went forward instead of back. if they went back it would have had the same impact as being shot and i can guarantee i would not have been alive know.
having been there seen it and done it on tyres I can honestly say those boys get paid peanuts for the work they do.
