hinos are good for noise
yeah, the merc i’m drivin,an 1843,the horn in that is very embarassing
it’s so bad that i try not to use it even if someone has really ■■■■■■ me off
I drive an Axor and that too is just a little ‘toot’
We have a couple of rental ivecos with a standard horn and air horn that you can switch off, trust me there always off as it sounds more like nails on a chalk board
I drive an Axor too and its bloody pathetic,my3 yr old grandsons go-carts got a louder and better one
I usually put my hands in the air trying too gesture how disappointed they will be and it usually saves face when they get what you meant and we all commiserate each other. lol
Completely different in the other department though by the time my horns blowing they are too late and she is commiserating herself. lol
I had a Stralis with the trumpet knocked off so it used to whistle like a steam train. That usually raised a smile! My present horn is big enough for the job but needs time to " build up the air"
fortunately,it`s not a problem for me(see top mods)
The BIG RED horn button in the Axor is a massive anti-climax…
I’ve driven one of those Ivecos with the switchable horn, bloody annoying when someone cuts you up and you go to give them a blast of the horns…only for a pathetic beep to come out
Least my Scania has a half decent horn as standard
If you drive an Actros you would never touch the horn button unless there were some nice boys about with hearing aids.
the man and merc horns are pathetic my car horn is better all motors should have train horns fitted
truckyboy:
I understand your predicament, but i can muster up the horn at willhaving a DAF who always have made the horn easier to grab attention.
I relish the days when we had in our Volvo F88/89 the on roof twin horns complete with chains, which makes me ask if there are still any trucks out there with the chain operation, or are they all on the stalk now ?
All our Fodens and Dafs have air horns operated by cable (I once had a 3000 series with twin Hadleys worked by chain ) escept mine because I had to buy mine so went without-still got a good standard horn that I use when passing suitable fanny…

I agree. I want a huge horn that sounds like an ocean liner. Something really deep and throbbing to get the ladies excited.
About 6 years ago I’d started a new job. Got given a Daf 95 and the previous driver hadn’t yet got round to removing his train horns. Well early one morning on the M2 a bus full of youngsters passed me, and as they’re going by started doing the motions with their arms for me to blast the horns. So I did. 3 of them actually dived for cover and the bus driver himself swerved a little bit. The others just burst out laughing and gave me thumbs up. They were loouuuuud!
Once I was cruising along a section of dual carriageway when my mrs pulled alongside and matched my speed for a little way. My step-son was sat in the front passenger seat, waving maniacally, so I thought I’d just lean on the horn in the scania I was driving at the time. He had to clean that seat when they got home, and I suffered from an extreme bout of smugness. By contrast the MAN drivers are embarrassed to use theirs, they are just laughably tiny!
Daf cf here, ■■■■ truck, great horn.
Used to drive an Actross, and I’d shout at people rather than press the horn, it was louder and got my point across better
my trusty kenworth horn resembles that of a freight train, so cant complain there

Quality
Bought a set of “tgv” horns @Transmarc many moons ago and couldnt wait til next trip out after they were fitted.
1/4 of a mile from the yard, clank, something catches my eye in the n/s mirror as one of the trumpets is ran over by a trailer tyre .
Only time i spent money on blinging a motor ,what a waste of 30 Euro
For years i drove a volvo FL, rubbish horn no louder than the average car.
Then the company got some new scannias. After delivering to a garage once, their tanker driver watched me reverse back out onto the road and by way of thanks i gave a quick press of the horn. It was the first time i had used it and i nearly ■■■■ myself!!
