Does it get easier?

In a previous employment I had a regular (as in most days of the week) delivery in Oxford Street. Fortunately my employer had the foresight to issue me with a driver’s mate, who could scope out the totty for me and draw my attention to the really good stuff (typically by saying “Phwoarr - Nearside” on the approach), leaving me to concentrate on driving the lorry.

I’d consider paying for his lessons, so he could drive and I could letch! :open_mouth:

Cheers guys, that’s all OK then, I look forward to being further demoralised on a daily basis!

Also forgot to add:

  1. Went over my 4h30mins driving time on a digital tacho whilst reversing back from that low bridge. Do VOSA view this just as dimly as if I’d gone over my 9/10 hours for the day? I imagine I’ll be getting a fine in the post at some point

Thanks again.

It deffo gets easier.

You’re better and more confident than you were 2 weeks ago, aren’t you ?

How long over the 4.30 driving time did you go ?

Relax - It is not an automatic fine, generally speaking it will only matter if you get stopped by VOSA in the next 28 days and if that happens they will take into consideration that you are a new driver. You might receive an infringement from the Company - this is not as scary as it sounds it’s just a form to say that you have acknowledged the error.

Do a tacho print out and write an explanation of the error on the reverse and keep that with you for the next 28 days.

It’s all part of the learning experience. If you’re still making these mistakes after 3 years then it would be a problem.

Listen to Micky, he’s an expert when it comes to fines!

Do your printout and written explanation ASAP, as VOSA/DVSA won’t be impressed with your explanation after the fact…

I’ve only had the one (Dartford) but admittedly I have been lucky on a few occasions.

Sorry mate, I thought you had a speeding one in the post as well…

P.S. Don’t curse your luck pal!

I hope not

I went through one of the time limited weight restriction signs near Wembley about 4 weeks ago but, touch wood, I have not heard any more about it - I posted about it so it is probably that one you remember.

Hopefully you’re clear of that now mate, as you don’t want to play the “What do points make?” game.

You are unlikely to hear anything about those timed weight limits in London unless you were actively spotted entering the restriction.

I can still make mistakes after thirty three years. Dont find any problems at all in achieving that. Maybe my "basic error" rate isnt as high as it was when I first started, but with some effort I can still manage a few good uns. Dont worry, as you over come basic errors, with experience and time you`ll discover many new ways to make a fool of yourself.

It does get easier as you settle into the swing into of things. In my first weeks of driving I ripped the bottom step off a wagon, dragged a 26t down the side of a Stobarts cab.

Once you’ve found the right job then you’ll feel better at the end of the day. Don’t give up, it does get better. Soon you’ll be doing the City Of London without breaking a sweat.

Do you have a picture is the question mate?!!

I do but I’m not posting it.

■■■■ I didn’t realise there were 2 pages to this post  Ohh I understand you don’t want to post, you could drop me a pm with a cheeky pic enclosed lmao
( Nothing dirty please ) :grimacing:

I hope so. Been driving class 2 for 4 years, passed class 1 last month. Was sent out with 1 one of our regular class1 drivers friday just gone, and tonight, off out by myself :open_mouth:

Only problem was doing test on wagon & drag, and company use arctics!! So a bit of difference. Be all good though. Only slightly bricking it. Take a trailer down to another depot, drop. Pick up another and head back.
