Does anyone remember these?

Last time I was in Dublin, there was plenty of Molloy & Sherry’s outfits in a yard down in Dublin Port. I used to go there go get the rig washed etc.
P.S last time I was in Dub’s was 4 years ago

Hi malc…yes i remember most of your list.when i was on fridges i used to meet up with quite a few of those company drivers…i worked for SAS (bromley) still going today…and Eldridge (still going) we used to do the flying goose work out of warminster to scandinavia…but i often wonder who owns who these days its funny how the northern irish drivers would not run or even talk to southern irish drivers …dont know what its like today though…
have a nice day

Is Hanbury Davies anyhting toi do with the Russell Davies family, I wonder? Somebody told me that they had started up again after Securicor bought them for about 40 mill.

Me? Don’t think I’d bother

Yep, Glynn Davies is the driving force behind the HD team, they seem to specialise in buying firms on the brink. After several years of twiddling his thumbs watching the interest roll in he got bored, and bought Loadwell in Felixstowe on the 11th hour just before they went bust. they then carried on and bought several other firms. I heard a rumour (you know about rumours :unamused: ) that DHL had offered to sell the container division back to HD, but HD declined the offer as they were out to poach many of DHL/Securicors customers anyway.

Loadwell’s was actually taken over by Goodways and then when Goodways were about to go down the pan Glyn Davies stepped in.

I remember Kelly Freight,I was weekended once in Athens with a couple of their drivers,Liam Cunningham being one of them.
There was also a driver from Lagan Transport there that weekend,Eddie something or another, had an F12.Are Lagan still going?

To the best of my knowledge Lagan are still operating. If I remember rightly they ran some nice plant!

Kev

A company I worked at several years ago got into the mire, the drivers were called into a meeting and told about it by the liquidator.

We apparently had a choice, between Glyn Davies or a company who we did some work for.

We voted for the devil we knew! That was around the time Russel Davis bought TCS

Our company was stripped and raped then dumped. The new owners only wanted the equipment to hire to sub contractors.

The redeeming company has just gone bust again taking many owner drivers and small companies with it.

The story was in last weeks commercial motor

I knew a Mike Ponsonby. He’d be about 50ish now, hardly a lad. Perhaps this kids dad? Mike was a developement manager for Ryder around 1990 when I negotiated with him the sale and lease back of the Toray Textiles fleet. Got on very well what with our history and interest in trucks but the relationship soured somewhat when things went a bit awry. He said his Dad started the Ponsonby firm and his brother was still involved.

Salut, David.

Thanks Marky

I didnt have time to add any extra info , but as you point out most were absorbed by , or already part of a bigger group, and some will just have closed down.
