Do you stay in same truck all the time Poll

Adonis.:
I’ll also drive a van if I’m paid class 1 money, trying to get me to do that for van money would be the time that toys would be launched out the pram.

A.

Same, I’d even prefer the van work as it would be something different. I can’t say too much about the smoking as I smoke. Trying to quit though. :grimacing: I’d give any motor a go as long as its legal.

Back in the days of haulage companies, before Logistics providers took over it was simple economics to have the same truck and driver paired up. It made sense because the driver would be the first to feel something amiss with the truck and get it into the workshop pronto and save a potentially financially catastrophic repair bill by nipping the problem in the bud early. Nobody seems to care enough about that aspect nowadays however.

I have the same truck allocated to me btw, but that doesn’t stop it covering 2000+ miles on a weekend when I’m off though!

It always amazes me that I can cover 200k miles in it without breaking anything, yet someone who’s only in it for 12 hours can snap bits of the interior off. :imp:

I seem to be one of the very few on here who absolutely love cab hopping, variety is by far the spice of life seeing how different units handle. We have over 100 units of Daf, new type Daf and Actros .
The job I did before was nights on containers and you had a different unit every night again a variety of truck types only the trampers had their own truck. Personally I couldn’t stand the tedium of having the same unit every day . I get bored of cars very quick

We are allocated our own units and whichever type of trailer you use the most, so I have ‘my’ tipper trailer but if I need a different type of trailer walking floor, ejector etc I use a ‘spare’ trailer before picking up someone else’s.

We’re pretty old school, but it’s one of those things where some crews like to have a change of faces, some weeks I can stand trucks all week and it’s whatever work comes in, with the best will in the world we cannot have one driver/one crew per truck. Having said that, being a small firm, everyone keeps the trucks tidy and we soon know if something ‘feels’ wrong.

Not really new anymore had the same job about 2 years. still keen I think. Just find variety is the spice of life . I did get allocated the same vehicle 2 days running about a year ago was just random. needless to say It wasn’t so exciting and was glad to get home.
We get more variety as trucks are often swapped around between depots .

Thankfully I do. Can’t be dealing with the hassle.
But that being said, when I first started at jenkinsons I had to cab hop for about a month and it didn’t bother me overly, most likely because I knew that it was only temporary.

I believe new drivers at Jenkinsons don’t have that problem now, since it ceased to be a ‘‘dead man’s shoes job’’ …for the reasons I am sure you know better than me.

Haha I had heard that rob! But I’ve got to be honest when I was there the job was what you made it, if you understood the way things worked and didn’t let the planners push you into pushing it day in day out, it was an easy job

Totally agree, that’s the difference between Haulage and Logistics. Hauliers always had their own workshops, now its all R&M contracts. Cant stand a truck for even a day, and as others have said too “I understand the economics” its still a bit frustrating.

I was off last week, took me 45 mins to gut my truck on the Friday, though I had spent the Thursday night preparing, and the same sort of time to put everything back in on Monday morning, but bitter experience leads you to do this. Got to say though, the lad that had My truck left it spotless, probably cleaner than how I left it tbh
