does it drive on public highways as its running on red diesel ? or is that immaterial !!!Was that a daft question lol
yes and no lol
they did have 2 tanks fitted when built, but then told by vosa and hmrc that i could run on red all the time including traveling on road
NoobieTrucker:
Do you need a Class C license to drive a Road Sweeper, i have been told i can drive these on my car licenseThe vehicle is a 15ton Johnstone Mechanical sweeper.
All our guys require a class 2 for the johnstones

nearly there:

Thats what i thought
you can’t put red fuel in the truck engine, only in the back engine for sweeping so there is no way you could drive with red fuel.

Actually you can if it is classified as agriculture or Plant then you can. HMRC said that on a Traffic Cop show once when they realised they couldnt nick the driver of a road sweeper years back

Yes you can, and we do all the time on the road rail trucks. All fully legal and above board
Sorry, my mistake, my company told me red was a total no-no in the main engine but I suppose it’s because we are driving on public highways’

That is true for the majority of trucks, but its all down to how it is registered. As you put, if you have a donkey engine, then that can be run on red and the rest on white.
Ours are classed as mobile plant, as they spend more time on the track than on the road, e.g last nights shift, I did 10 mins on the road at each end of the shift to and from the parking, the other 6.5 hrs were on track.
