Discs or Drums?

Just an update,
have a fitter replacing the original SAF C130 disc’s along with new pads today on the middle axle, trailer was new in Feb 04.
Thats 3 years and nine months from the original disc’s. :open_mouth:
Cost@ £47 per disc and £50 per set of pads (Juratek).
Don’t think I’ll be going to drums anytime soon :exclamation: :exclamation:

:bulb: Maybe the Jake Brake on both the Foden and now the Premium helped alot too.

You must be a carful driver  unlike some. Take a look at this:

As we say over here Davor, you get truck-drivers and you get screw-drivers  .

Most of those parts look to me like poor maintainance to me, although the driver should have spotted poor braking. On the other hand, if you drive the same unit and trailer all the time, you unconsciously adapt your driving to suit the slowly developing wear and don’t really notice anything wrong.

my opinion only …i have a europeon customer who supplied his own parts when his vehicles and trailers are in the workshop…saf disc brake trailers fitted with juratek discs and pads not worth a sh*te…

if your replacing pads and discs use original equipment, cheaper in long run…

keep a beady eye on there wear rates fella!!!

You may well have a point in regards to the Juratek disc’s but what price would a genuine Wabco disc be
At a guess approx 3 times the price of the Jurateks which was the price ratio between set of genuine Wabco pads (£150) used by me at one time that DID NOT last one day longer than the Juratek pads at £50 :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :imp:
I would be astounded if 1 Wabco disc could last longer than 3 Juratek disc’s for the same money and it only takes about 1 hour to change the disc’s/pads on a Saf axle.

It makes a difference not so much if the part is original or not but where it is made. Same company - part made in Germany or Poland is not the same quality. Back in the days it was written Made in Germany, Made in England and now it is written Made in EU. Where in EU??
I have a friend who owns a Harley-Davidson, he crashed it and required new parts — he bought original Harley-Davidson parts Made in Malaysia.

Big Truck:
I just replaced a set of disc’s/pads on the SAF rear axle of my trailer, they are a make called “Juratek” and the cost was £150 per axle for pads AND disc’s and it took one whole hour :exclamation: :exclamation:  :sunglasses:
The trailer does 44t quarry hauling (think all that dust and wheel washes!!) and it was new in Feb 04 and thats the first disc’s I’ve had to replace,at those prices you can take your drums and shove them up your “jacksy” :exclamation:

Wait till the calipers need changed then tell me there cheaper than drums!
Changed all our tippers to 10 inch drums with autolube average yearly running costs now down to less than £200
