Digi tachograph fault?

I have now been picked up a couple of times for tacho infringements, both on manual entries and funnily enough both on the same unit.

We use 2 types of digi tachos at work, one is the one where you put the date and time first for every manual entry then the mode, the other is where the mode is put in before the date and time enties. (to be honest I don’t give a toss about what make model and year they are I just learn how to put in what I need to and have been happy until now}.

The one I have now had problems with is the one which wants to know mode first. The problem has happened when my shift end has been in one month and shift beginning has been in the next month (I work 4 on 4 off), when I try to input the end of my last shift the tacho won’t let me go backwards beyond the first day of the current month, this has resulted in two days over the last 6 months being recorded as 40+ hours without rest. I know when I see that the tacho doesn’t seem to be doing what I usually see it doing I should do a print-out and make notes on the back, but to be honest when you do every thing you normally do and the results aren’t what you expect you tend to doubt yourself. Now it’s happened twice I’m starting to doubt the tacho.

Is this a known fault of the (I believe) newer type of digi tacho or could it be a fault of the tacho in that specific unit?

Sorry if I seem a bit wooly on this subject but I am the type of bloke that learns enough to get the job done using the equipment provided, I have now found a fault which I don’t seem to be able to blame on myself so I’m starting to worry about the equipment.

I can’t remember 100% because I do it on auto pilot, but I’m sure you have to press ok to go past the day part of the date, so your on the months change the month, then go back to the day part. Or am I talking out my arse?

Autopilot like me then  I’m asking this because this has only happened a couple of times out of the many times I’ve been through this operation but its happened twice. I’ve noticed that everything isn’t normal when inputting end of shift data, but both times its with the same unit and when its the first insertion of the card after a break between the last day of the month and when I next put in the digi card .

So what I’m trying to work out is that if it’s the tacho type that has a known fault or if it is limited just to that unit.

(Edited to use punctuation to make the post readable by English people)

I think like NewLad says, you need to change the month.

I don’t know if this will help (it shows someone adding data manually on to a shift that ended in the previous month):-

Is it that bloody obvious? ■■■■ I feel stupid.
Thanks to both of you I’ll bear that in mind next time I use that type of tacho at the start of a new month.

Shows how often I get a new unit at work doesn’t it
