Parked up at 0730 for 9hrs on A13 between Tilbury and Thurrock. At 16:30 turned on ignition to be greeted with Diesel sender fault.
Get out to find sender unit removed from tank, all connections cut and tank 350ltr less diesel. Actros easy pickings?
Broad daylight, windows open, busy road…
Not happy!
That’s really bad luck
Our caravan dwelling friends have a site that backs onto the A13, if you were coming out of Tilbury it would of been on the same side as you. Easy pickings for them, they would of just come through the field and over the embankment
If you were Westbound in the laybye just before the Lakeside junction there is a traveller site behind the trees, could find your diesel there! They don’t even need to go on the road to nick it…
There’s only one word for them & it’s an Intimate part of a Ladies Anatomy.
Your experience of diesel theft was better than mine.
Yours is bad enough but I ended up assaulted with a overnight stint in hospital.
That was in Essex as well.
Off on meds at the moment.
Womens ■■■■■■■■ mate.
Glad you’re okay.
Dont always presume its travellers there is plenty of eastern european gangs taking fuel one of the most popular ways at the moment is eastern european trucks fitted with pumps
Ouch!
That’s really bad, speedy recovery!
Police said to me that had I opened the door I would have probably been dragged out!
Was told they knew who the likely culprits were but… Wouldn’t be able to prove anything.
Do people really park in lay byes just to save 20 quid?
think I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve done it.

I was parked on an industrial estate about 300 yards from the firm’s branch in Chelmsford

Blimey Mate, hope you recover soon.
I would like to think that you would be allowed to park in your depot in future, or as a driver, does your safety only matter when onsite
Some park in laybys to save £20, others because lorry parks and MSA’s are full off other drivers, who seem to have no regard for others trying to sleep at 10pm 11pm 12am 1am 2am, or anytime actually.
I prefer Ind Estates, but you have to be careful
Thanks Eddie.
Our yard in Chelmsford is very small.
No room at all to park especially with a trailer.
Dropped that in the yard and went to the services but still couldn’t get in there even solo.
It’s a painful lesson learned m8.
I just hate reading stories of diesel thefts on here.
My advice to anyone is just let them take it.
that’s always been my philosophy I am not paid enough to take a kicking or risk my life for driving a truck so let them take it.

This. My company’s “policy” is that they won’t pay for parking, unless carrying a high value load.
Fine, I won’t be paying out of my pocket, and I’ll do what I can to keep the truck safe, but if the ■■■■■ want your diesel, they’ll take it no matter what you do!
I certainly won’t be stumbling out of my cab at 2am to investigate, they can bloody take it. I’ve got a wife and kids to go home to, I’m not risking a beating to try and save a few quids worth of fuel.

A13 is a hotspot for diesel theft. especially where you parked. One of our lads got his nicked a couple of weeks back parking in the layby on there. Bet he got a right bollocking of our boss as we have a yard at tarmac at linford where we can park.

Anyone would think truck manafactures have shares in gypsie camps. Here you have your fancy anti theft filters yet the sender unit pops straight off. Its like locking your house but leaving the keys hanging on the fence.
It wouldn’t exactly be rocket science to design a tank in a way its pretty much secure this side of an electric drill
