DHL Hackbridge Ikea Argos Homebase

phillybob71:
I have heard about the 12 hour shifts, i believe they have been trialed at various csc’s in the past. Also trialing 6pm-8pm time slot at rdc’s but you don’t start till late morning/lunchtime. Do think the job needs a complete overhaul from Argos upwards to us as it is getting to be a shambles which can’t be good for sales. Think Argos and DHL need to start working together properly.

Argos have gone the right way with the 2 hour time slots and the new shifts and later delivery times will suit the customer base, and thats a fact. It willbe the only way to increase the delivery percentage. They really to be honest need to drop their prices. I was shopping for a cooker and I bought one out of John Lewis with a 2 year Gaurantee and free delivery for £599. Argos wanted £649, delivery and installation £79 and only 1 year gaurantee. This is where they are going wrong, they are no longer competitve.

As for working together with DHL, get rid of the union! They keep making stupid agreements, all the health and saftey is getting out of hand. Only taking stuff upstairs when it suits the driver and if you don’t want just saying the stairs are unsafe which is usually a load of rubbish, really doesn’t makea happy customer. I think to be honest though it may be too little too late!

i do agree that they are trying to close the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Heres a couple of links to the Isuzus if your interested

hi matt i work at scunny with phil just some stuff ya said there sounds bit odd

  1. we still do homebase deliveries

  2. i have also heard about 12 hour shifts and have been trialled but havent heard what they plan on doing with it and again not heard what will happen with later time slots (6-8pm) but more than likely will do them, they dont give a toss because they have a nice 9-5 job sat in office i doubt many of our top brass have ever done a delivery in their lovely career. We havent seen our manager in months and the fact he cant even drive our trucks says a lot to me and the “transport controller” we have seems to have a nice cushy 6-2 or 8-4 job and really doesnt care what problems we have whilst out on a run

3 i doubt very much argos or dhl will pay for over 500 drivers to do class 2 i have heard they might bring them in for “selected people” at RDC’s

  1. they dont give a toss about how easy a vehicle is to drive and they aint that bothered about mpg anymore, we used to get nagged like crazy about mpg but for some reason they never talk about it anymore, the fact that when we get a fail for customer not being in and wen that customer rings up to say theyre in and they always ask us to go back even if we are 20, 30, 40 miles away from them and on odd occasions nearly back at depot to me that is not good mpg

as for the other comments about about the union yeah they are signing any old crap off like now we have lost company sick pay because of all the friday and monday duvet lovers bringing the % up which makes it ■■■■ for the genuinely ill or sick ones Iike myself am havin to go for an op on my back because of a prolapsed disc with recovery period of 2-3 months and i have to argue as to why i should get paid

maybe if they gave us the stuff to do the job initially for example they expect us to take sofas and white goods up many flights of stairs when lifts are out of order then say we have to maintain 3 points of contact doing so … tell me how then? many a time we have had no magliner (sackbarrow) which is part of the ssow and more often than not these barrows are either not suitable for the job or are broken

the latest we are gettin bitched at is unpacking white goods, yes its a nice idea and helpful for the customer for us to do this and take away the rubbish but you cannot force somebody to have their item unpacked if they dont want it but yet we are bombarded daily with their latest communication device yes they have discovered they can nag us thru the works mobile phone

I was getting this alot when I was at DHL, with the magliners. Did you know that if you don’t have a magliner you can refuse to complete jobs that are over 25kg? If the magliner is damaged it should be defected just like your truck. If you had an accident with a known faulty magliner, then you would get no pay out.

I understand about the white goods problem. I had this argument and they did not want to listen they just expect that every customer wants their goods unpacked and rubbish taken away and recycled. “what if they are rebuilding their kitchen and don’t want to unpack it for 3 months to keep it protected?” fell on deaf ears.

They won’t retrain the non HGV drivers, they will try to replace with HGV drivers when and if they do replace the fleet in time. When I was helping to recruit last time for Argos, they didn’t want 7.5tonne drivers, they wanted HGV drivers who would do the 7.5tonne driving, knowing that if they cahnged the fleet they had the qualified drivers in place ready.

I also understand how frustratin it can be when your manager cannot do the job you are doing. I have been there, but having done Argos deliveries and Ikea deliveries for around 11 years (last 3 in the office) I feel your pain. It is like talking to a brick wall sometimes.

Whoops!

any idea who deals in the ex fleet stock for argos?

cheers

I know that the X reg DAF 45’s went onto auction at a place near to Marsh Leys Beds, as that is where the head office is. They may have a different way of dispossing now, i’m not sure.

Anyone at the Sittingbourne Argos depot, are you being relocated as Dodd’s have gone now?
