Defect reporting and rectification

But back to the OP’s question and the little bit of stick he’s being given…
We don’t have spares at my normal limping gig, so we have no choice but to whip it down the workshop. I’ve had to do it for a bulb, and think it’s crazy. I’d love to know how much the firm is paying per bulb fix! But I’m getting paid, and if that’s the way they want to do it, then so be it!

Kate:
So… A driver picks up a pre-loaded trailer with a bulb out, and then he sits there until somebody changes it ? It that how it works ?

At our spot you go to the traffic office and they give you a bulb and a screwdriver. If its out because of say a dodgy wire/bulb holder on the old ones you fill out a defect, drag it to the workshop and they fix it there and then.

Radar19:
Would they provide you with a bulb or two if needed? What happenes if you’re 100 mile down the road and you find a bulb out, I stil struggle to believe firms are paying fitters to change bulbs. Those guys must be making a killing.

Every wagon in our fleet has a spare bulb kit which has one of every type of bulb used and screwdrivers in a plastic tupperware box in the cab and its on the daily check sheet that you check its there and complete. Problem solved.

We have a workshop and fitters but our trailers get battered and abused.

We are not aloud to do any repairs have called daf aid out at 02.30 just to change a bulb. I have given up trying myself trying to save company money just greated with y did you do that?? Your paid to drive not think. Lol. So anything no matter how big or small or werever i am its a call to dafaid.

I had a dip light out earlier this year and would’ve changed it, had a bulb in the cab but no set of torque wrenches to get the lighting panel off! Defected it on paperwork, emailed boss and carried on as there wasn’t a whole lot I could do.

Now, each truck has a toolbox in it!

Lady Gaga can wait.

I do more in terms of rectifying defects myself now, a hazard (or benefit depending on your point of view) of working for a small company. I carry an air line to help get back with punctures, no chance of that where I started driving tippers (they were deemed dangerous).
I carry bulbs, WD40 (sorts out many Daf problems from squeaky seat to reversing beeper), and I can recalibrate our trucks’ weighloaders.
However I can’t cure the “error cell overload 3” message so a call to PM Vishay will be in order tomorrow.

We have " Strikt " no self Repair :exclamation: (Management Decision)

I like to think our place has a common sense policy, if I can fix it or temp repair it to get back and feel confident doing so then crack on.
If not call out.

Unit under warranty so main dealer back up and to be fair to Renault they are the nicest friendliest, bend over backwards lads I have ever met this side of Thailand. Although its always a ■■■■■ part thats broke

We are left to book and arrange and usually planners are the last to know unless its going to afect a delivery or collection time.

Only rule is worn tyres are replaced during office hours and no creating a fault to wangle a Friday night out if works gone a tad quiet.

texaspete:
That’s correct. Told to enter any defect however big or small on this sheet and not to simply fix it first. Initiative seldom encouraged where I work so thought it strange when it was implied thats what I should have done.

Defect it then fix it. The reason is if it’s ie the same bulb that keeps going it’s easier to nail it down be it faulty batch of bulbs or a short .
When doing defects for intermittent stuff I write everything that’s going on like intermittent abs ebs transmission warning power interruption sender fault … I had all this in one night , other drivers would just say warning light came on

We have 14 vehicles. Some drivers change bulbs, some wont.
Last year our bill for changing bulbs was a smidge over 2K.

Evil8Beezle:
It works like this: You report a defect, then FA gets done about it unless it’s a VOR.
I’m learning this game quick!

I remember the days when all drivers carried a ‘get you home tool kit’ and even changed their own wheels on the hard shoulder.

But…Things have changed (thank Christ  ) and it would be very easy to take the ■■■■ out of the o/p’s question, as some already have, but I’m with him and see his point entirely with the way things are today.
Ok fair enough, if I was in a hurry for my own benefit …Friday etc, screwdriver out, spare bulb out, and I have done countless times.
However these tossers, (of the type that Juddian refers to :unamused: ) make these rules to justify their job and existence…, so just play along, chances are you will get another couple of hours pay for all the [zb] ing about that it generates so every body is happy. :sunglasses: so don’t knock the o/p he is doing as he is told.

I wondered how long it would take for you to turn up and chime in with some story about “back in my day when truckers were real men…”
I’m sure your next post will be something about getting stuck on a highland road with a flat, and because you didn’t have a spare, set about on a block of granite with a hammer and chisel! :unamused:

Well I didn’t disappoint you then did I. :sunglasses:
Then again you expected me to have a go at the o/p so that threw you didn’t it. :grimacing:
I don’t remember telling you about that day in the Highlands so how did you know about it? :open_mouth:

Honked:
Last year our bill for changing bulbs was a smidge over 2K.

That just says it all doesn’t it, :unamused:
They could have saved 2k, and a further 30k by sacking the prick that made that the rule, and got someone in who knew the job. :bulb:
