yoyoyo:
what a night of being laughed at and watching head shaking
This used to be my biggest fear after i passed my test a few years ago, and drove anything other than a class 1, including buses ever since until very recently.
Had my first solo shift a month ago and took me over 15 attempts to get on the bay at DHL Iceland, Warrington. Security told me to put on bay 10 but made the newbie mistake of not going far forward enough before starting the tight reverse. Afer my 10th attempt at trying to jack knife onto bay 10, i just give up in the end and thought sod it, and but it on bay 9 next door I did have the embarrasment of explaning why i was on the wrong bay at the traffic office, but thy were great with me There were a few foreign drivers parked opposite flat against the wall which made getting on the bay opposite much more tighter but NOT ONE even raised an eyebrow at my embarrassing attempt
3 attempts to get in a bay? ■■■■ me on my first attempt I know its going to take me atleast 20 but do I care? no I don’t just take it on the chin you only learn from experience!
My first attempt took me an eternity, in the dark, Asda Erith. Got so stressed that when I finally got it between the bananas, even though I wasn’t remotely square, I wouldn’t pull it out again, bent the sodding thing in. Then sat there for an age because I was too stressed to read my bit of paper, so I didn’t hit the button or hand my keys in.
Which meant I was late getting away, almost out of hours, and trying to park on Thurrock Services on a Friday night at 9pm
I find it hard to believe that someone from a pcv background taking workplace banter and constant passenger abuse on a daily basis, (trust me I speak from experience) can’t take a bit of head shaking and online ribbing.
Grow a pair and crack on. Reversing doesn’t come overnight and I’d have been pretty pleased with the 3rd attempt on my first go.
I know after I’d spent all the money I spent to get my CE I wouldn’t have thrown it in after one day and I certainly wouldn’t go back to pcv. Yes pcv load and unload themselves however boxes and pallets don’t moan and winge at you.
