A l c:
sleep in a day cab what about the gear stick o i still have 1 by the way and where do you put your bag i have a big one with all my food and things i need and sleeping bag and are day cabs fitted with night heaters and how many would go to an interview and they say its couple of nights out a week and by the way its a day cab
How times have changed.
Sleeping bag and pillows were shoved behind the seats, night out bag was chucked in the passenger footwell and if it got a bit chilly the engine was left running(unless you had one of those portable heaters that ran on some kind of surgical spirit)
Yes that’s why lots of us have bad backs and walk like we have (zb) our pants when we get out the cab
:
Perhaps some of them were sleeping on the “gear stick”
Going back to the subject of day cab curtains, back then it used to be a couple of old blankets tucked into the side windows and held to the sun visors with clothes pegs - happy days indeed

Is it true that tipper drivers keep their rigger boots on at all costs?
Saw a day cab skip lorry with cab curtains the other day.
It had a couch in the back . . may have been a sofa though
[/quote]
Saw something similar myself today. Day cab skip lorry complete with frilly curtains, but this one had a double mattress and a chest freezer in the back. The driver must be away for weeks at a time to need all that gear

Dont think you can call it rubbish anymore.
“Enviromental waste solution specialists” . . yea yea - skip firm then
hiya,
Cab curtains what next, I used to see the cab cowboys making do
with the previous days Daily Mirror and a dollop of blue-tack, you’re
all spoiled nowadays night heaters were road menders paraffin lamps
the bed was a concoction of old three piece suite cushions and bits
of three ply and WW 2 sleeping bags courtesy of the local Army and
Navy stores, now you know why I never cabbed it even when driving
sleeper cabbed motors the prep was too much like hard work and I
liked a shower and a proper bed after driving the thing all day and
to escape from the confines of a tin/plastic box, they would have
to resurrect the old digs before I’d even consider doing journey work
again, by jove I feel better for that.
thanks harry, long retired.
If it was the extended day cab as fitted to many R series 8 wheelers it could possibly have the set up below? Not bad for the odd 45 or very occasional night out, i’d rather have it as an option than not have it at all!
As for the frilly curtains, no place for them on any truck in my opinion!
