That’s what the route would have looked like but it through a few curve balls in that I wasn’t overly sure of. I think Beezle got it in his head I went via the bullring lol
I don’t think he’s left Southampton!
Where’s Southampton?
Try looking out the window, I know its hard, I lived there for 3 years.
Jesus,
The chap is driving a truck for the day not invading Iraq.
Sat Nav
Phone
Food
Wallet
Hella socket adapter as most 12v cig lighter plugs don’t work!
I may be wrong but I am sure someone mentioned a spare sock to keep sat navs and such fragile items from being bashed about too much in the cab.

That would be me, and then Beaver took it places it really shouldn’t have gone!
I think MoonpigDan also mentioned/suggested this on Ash 001’s incredibly long Sat-Nave thread!
I wonder if Goldilox ever did get that ming vase, Evil?

Hello all,
Ive just left the forces after serving 10 years to become a hgv driver.
The idea is to do day work starting early and getting back late afternoon to be able spend time with my daughter as in the forces it was every other week and sometimes months away.
Because ive left to see my girl more often nights and tramping is out the question for me and ill end up on tippers or doing multi drops which is fine.
Back ontopic and to my origional question… What can i get that would be handy to go in the cab with me that would make my life that little bit easier?
below i will list what i have or will be getting, if you can think of anythign else please add to my list.
- Grip bag with spare clothes Got
- Note pad and pen + spare pen Got
- Clipboard Got
- GB map and local map
- Big flask Got
- 3-1 cofee sachets
- Lunch box Got
- Torch for the early starts for my vehivle check Got
- HGV Satnav ( probably use on the last drag when closer to drop)
- Incab phone charger Got
- Wallet to hold all driver cards
- Dashcam ( too many idiots on the road ) Got
- Spare Tacho roll ( ill ask the company )
- Cab cleaning equiptment ( wipes , hand brush , glass cleaner , polish )
- Name plate ( gotta fit in
)
- Timer for my driving/working hours. Got
Many thanks,
Stracks
Sounds a lot for day work mate, tramping for sure, but hey what do i know im not even doing it yet lol,
cant be too prepared i suppose
i would prob just have the essentials, and im sure the company will provide you with the other stuff if needed, You will prob know what exactly you will need after a few shifts,
Have you got your licence, cpc etc ? also i would apply for a digicard D777B/DL form you can get from the gov website just print off and send etc, will be £32 plus any other fees like postal order etc if applicable,
gov.uk/government/publicati … river-card

Had my licence for 10 years but I’ve been driving in the forces and not for a normal firm.
Cpc and digi card I’ve got mate.
I know it sounds alot but I’d rather be prepared for the worst. A day shift can easily become night if stuck in traffic and left out of hours or broken down.

Did you have to stay with your truck or ?
Just a thought, i understand it maybe loaded etc but there is also a health and safety question there too surely ?
It was midnight before the recovery truck come to get me and he took me to Liverpool to a garage the yard is in Immingham so had to stay with the truck till some one picked me up the next day dint think the bloody garage would of disconected the batts but not something I’d like to repeat lol
I had that in 2014. The night heater didn’t work in a little 7.5t Japanese thing, woke up on multiple occasions to ice on the inside of the sleeper box.
I no radar it’s horrible and it was a lot colder in 14
