Two updates on trucks today, the first two pictures one of three trucks tipping on the cruise ship Iona today in Rotterdam the third shot is Roger loading in Barcelona, Buzzer
Great pics Buzzer, especially the bottom one with the three motors lined up !
Great pictures as ever Buzzer- this is interesting though, itâs a long time since Iâve seen the Dawson name anywhere.
Surely too much of a coincidence not to be the same Dawson people??

Dawson group still trading, but in asset rental now only Keith.

In the early fridge days of DIT Dawsonâs had a small yard at Northam in Southampton, we had got busy and needed an extra trailer and they had this in there yard and it had not moved in months, anyways I went round to see about renting it but did not have an account with Dawsonâs so offered to pay up front to secure the trailer until an account could be set up, the manager was having none of it and would not play ball even though we were an established haulier with a good reputation, needless to say no deal was done and that trailer was sat there for another six months before it moved, Buzzer.

Dawsonâs were very strict on credit ratings etc to get an account you practically had to be a blue chip company, and there was no way round it as everything had to be approved from HO In Tongwell.
Still you did get 3 F10âs on rental via Princes later on late 93/early 94 IIRC
PS They wouldnât touch Gover either
We never had any Dawson rental trucks in our existence not even through MC truck & bus, that first rejection was enough for me so stuff them after that, Buzzer.

Iâm sure you had 3 maybe not directly, wasnât there a delay with some new FHâs so Princes got them from Dawsonâs to tie you over until the FHâs arrived ?

No delay in the FHâs the first four came in early 94, we had 7 old style Globetrotters new before them but finance was cheap and I only kept them 3 years and extended warrantee till they went. Ordered the first FHâs before even seeing one in the flesh but went to Sweden with MC late 93 to the factory with 50 other people from the South, four day trip must have cost them a fortune as Sweden is not a cheap place to be, Buzzer.

Hi robthedog, you are indeed correct, we did have 3 x F12 RHD (Not Globetrotterâs) supplied by Princes via Dawson Rentals due to a delay with some new Trucks and the ones leaving the fleet had gone already before the delay. From memory, they were because 3 x F12 Globetrotters were late, which were the first Three we ever had with GEL plate on them, OR it was the second batch of FHâs due. We took the First Four FHâs 01/01/94 and the next Two 01/05/94, which was uncommon back then, usually you would wait until August. August '94 we then had 6 x FHâs come on M Registration and also Denny Belbin got his at the same time M40 DEN. I do remember the Rental trucks though, as one of them got reversed into by another one of our lads at a regular Customerâs Packhouse in Alicante, Mary Hopkins Dad, itâs catchingâŚ

Well that told me Rob so apologise for that, but they must have been freebieâs as on principal I never would have paid Dawsonâs a penny, have a feeling IIRC that Dawsonâs had some trucks based in M&Câs yard, am I right with that one, you have to make allowances for the old & frail, Buzzer

Dave Willams (Willy) had one and so did wee Jock, which is why I am leaning towards they were here when the Kâs came as Dave and Jock had K44 and K55. We had them for about 3-4 months. I am sure the trucks were late and came literally new Year, as Jock had a prang on the second or third day in K55 in Edinburgh. I cannot remember who had the Third Rental one, as Whacker got K66 new and had got out of F380 JKK.

They were paid for by Princes as the delay was down to them and not yourselves, Dawsons had moved to Nursling by then Mauretania Rd on the Ind Est, they never had any trucks based at Princes in Test Lane. I remember when the 3 F10âs came back how clean inside and out they were as normally, when equipment came back it was minging inside and out, youâve only got to look at your equipment now to see that youâve always had high standards hope that clears things up.

Southern France , all right for some ay ! Antibes again, thatâs where they filmed one the greatest films of all time called Dirty rotten scoundrels, Steve Martin and Michael Caine at their best performances in comedy gold .
Maybe one of your drivers could pop in to for tea with Jenson Button our Frome man who has a nice pad in Monaco, but hgv parking could be an issue depending who you know.
Has your fleet ever done Gibraltar?
I used to love tipping there then a full day driving with an empty trailer to reload Alicante/Valencia or Barcelona with plenty of nocturnal attractions with those houses with the flashing lights, it must have been very hot inside as even in the winter they only wore â â â â â â â and a bra .
When it warms up , can the drivers stop off for a quick swim in the sea, I did that all the time but donât forget where you bury the truck keys in the sand ?
Personally I did a Gibraltar with a split load on a fridge in one of the two tone blue globetrotters double manned with Paul Nicholâs, it was that long ago it never had a proper division door and a make shift partition was made of plywood but it was cheese on the back and it did not freeze, for some odd reason I always thought that Gib was an Island but of course it is not and I found it very strange to drive across the main runway of the airport to access and after crossing it was odd to see a copper dressed in a British uniform. Had a shower in a tin shack IIRC but I was not first in the que so mine was cold water. When tipped long drive to load tomatoes in Roquetes de Mar which were not ready for three days but Tony Mapson RIP did get loaded so Paul Nicollâs doubled with him on the way home, this is where I met Silly Keith so had company for the weekend, he later worked for us. Once loaded it was hurry up home as always, Mary Hopkins moments Buzzer.

I told Chip to put all the running money on Red 5 when he gets down to the Casino. Mention my name and they will sort out the Penthouse for 24 off Hahahaha
With lambing in full swing we were busy yesterday tipping out yows and lambs as it was a real day up ere, could do with some more but itâs supposed to be cooling down towards Easter. Calving is progressing nicely one or two problems which you always get but on the whole we canât complain, next job is getting the fert drill on to try and get some grass for these lambs to eat although the land is still very tender. Sold mi old Case 956 yesterday, itâs off to a lad near Whitby so now on the lookout for a 1056 with a 40kph box in it, could take a bit of finding a tidy one for the right money but let the search beginâŚ!
