Yeah… just testing… had a few probs getting posts on…
JD… thanks for all the info re yard. Looks like proper old school, plenty of potholes and mud! I always remember Andersen’s Road being a bit like that when LTS had it… did you have all the tarmac and fencing done?
Tones motor looks great , no wonder he was so proud of it…
Re Jack Hargreaves… I think he did cover most country subjects but fishing was the thing I looked forward to.
I recall another fella that did a country programme on Southern TV. His name was Ollie Kite ( not the one from EST ) he was an ex army officer who served in Burma etc , but also an expert fly fisherman. He died whilst fishing on the bank of the Test at the young age of 50 something…
I’ve only been fly fishing once. Caught a 20lb Bluebottle.
Re pics of where I’m at now, I don’t want to cause howls of protest and a loss of readers… Other people’s renovation pics wouldn’t interest many!
On the farming front , it’s more sheep here than cattle, quite different from the place we rented whilst house hunting… that was all Limousin stock. Funny as we’re only 20 k’s down the road…
We’ve got a few chooks and had a good season with home grown veg…the weather helps, could only grow grass in Kerry.
Re Roger in Lapland( will there be a film ) , which route did you send him?
All the best. Balders.
Hi Balders that man Ollie Kite had a big Moustache IIRC, as for Roger in Lapland he is on his way home now part load in Norway second stop Malmo, when I was driving and while running the company we never got jobs like that although we did do quite a lot of tramping from one country to another, always remember loading the pears from Italy for John Sollami, always three markets Barcelona , Madrid and Valencia. When the first eight pallets came off in Barca we were still 38 ton gross but he was a nice man and IIRC he always treated the drivers to a free meal when loading. Back then I got ECMT book which I believe was one of only about fifty in existence but they took it back after two years as we did not really use it to proper effect.
Dean I don’t get involved much with rates nowadays but do here if they get a zoomer, in my day you stayed stumb about rates else some other scrote soon came sniffing round, not that many Brits still at it today not like when we were in our prime. Today you have to be in a niche job to get sensible rates and we do specialise in the pharma trade today including warehousing.
Balders as for the vegetable growing last year was not good, a mate brought round his mini digger today and is going to dig three trenches which we are going to fill with manure for the bean lines, this hold water and provided nutrients and I got some special runner bean seed coming from a mate who is a commercial grower so looking forward to a better cropping year, cheers Buzzer.
Sadly not Dean bought that truck for IIRC £600 from Hartshorn in Birmingham just to get me home when I had dropped of an F89 for a granning conversion lift axle when the weights went up to 38ton remember it well as it became my daily driver very slow on hills but I earned £1150 with it in the first week and I only did local shunting so not bad in 1983.
The picture below is Roger in Sweden and had a bit of a white out overnight but loading for Blighty now.
Happy memories of an F 86 … Good heater and a radio lol: was luxury after an Atkinson…
I was on for Houghtons of Wickham way back when. Not sure when but Ray Moore was the early morning man on Radio 2…
As you say John , not the best on hills but we mainly did light loads so it was ok.
Well the weathers taken a turn for the worse but luckily we got our site dug out and a drain put in, a bit of rain on Thursday afternoon and it soon turned soft again. Waiting for the quarry to open after the Christmas break and then we can stone the site and get some footings in.
Work in progress there Wrighty that’s for sure but more wet stuff on its way, I always tried to get building done in the Summer for obvious reasons plus there is longer daylight, hope you get her done ready for lambing as this will make life a lot easier for that task ahead.
Me I am still actively looking for more Angus stock but the holiday has got in the way of that a bit but we are set to get going once again with the markets opening up again after the break, onwards and upwards cheers Buzzer.
We were selling bulls on Friday at Leyburn, 8 month old Limi’s top price was £1090 so we were quite pleased. We also sold two cows with calves, top price was £1550 for an 8 year old cow with a bull calf.
Not too bad a morning up ere so will go and feed some sheep then mucking sheds out, aye it’s all go…

Sounds like the F86 did ok for you Buzzer, not surprised it was a tad slow on hills chap, especially after a F89 !

That brings back some memories “Baldrick1953”. I agree with your comments on the F86,remember getting out of a Guy and could not
believe the difference. Also Ray Moore was great used to listen to him and he was on very early like you say followed by
Terry Wogan, happy days !
Buzzer:
Some pics from a farm where you are allowed to walk.
Those pics you put on Dean of the farm looks like it may have been an old aerodrome, only saying that by looking at the concrete, Buzzer
kerbut:
Where is that Dean ?, where Flight Refuelling used to be before they moved to Wimborne, Tarrant something.
Morning chaps,
Yes it is an old airfield at Tarrant Rushton that was used in the 2nd World war and then after. Nigel i never knew that Flight refuelling
used it,thats intresting.
Chipodopulus tipping in Frankfurt this morning and loading 45 miles away then GEL on back to Blighty, meanwhile in the kitchen at the homestead this is the second batch of marmalade this year got to get the stocks up to see us through the famine when we leave the EU, cheers Buzzer.
DEANB:
Buzzer me old mucker, about time we had some cattle pics on here, havent had any lately ?
Dean I can assure you I am working on the cattle procurement side of things and viewed some near Ringwood on Thursday but they have to be tested and will update any progress on that front, also got some others also in the pipeline all private not markets.
On other business I have just bought a new to me Discovery as I have two trailers now one flat the other livestock and my pickup is not the ideal towing machine. It is having a service and a new tow bar fitted but its a bit posh for a farm utility vehicle may have to get some seat covers to protect it a bit, cheers Buzzer.
